And that concludes our time in Thailand…

🥹 What we loved: Ao Nang

We could have stayed a month in Ao Nang. The beaches are some of the most beautiful we’ve visited, the town has such a fun vibe, and there is so much more you can explore from having a base here. We’ll definitely be back.

🫤 What was meh: Koh Lanta

Although we usually love the quiet and calm destinations, Koh Lanta might have just been a little too quiet for us. The beaches were lovely, but the waves a little too strong. I think this just comes down to the time of year we visited (Monsoon Season). Had we come in dry season I’m sure we would have loved it.

😑 What we didn’t like: Phuket

There was just too many people. The total opposite of Koh Lanta. The traffic is comparable to visiting Bali, the amount of tourists is just insane, and the costs on this island are so inflated because of the amount of tourism here. Also, the beaches weren’t our favourite.

Travel Update 👇🏼

Our third stop in Malaysia was the beautiful Penang Island, where we treated ourselves to a much needed, seven day vacation at the in Batu Ferringhi. We lounged by the pool, sipped on fancy cocktails, and indulged in pure relaxation. It was blissful and exactly what we needed.

After our relaxed week, we took a quick 30-minute drive to George Town for a brief three-night stay. Still in relaxation mode from our resort week, we took it easy and only managed to visit Penang Hill – which was absolutely breathtaking!

Our day at Penang Hill was magical. We rode the funicular to the top and spent hours wandering around, taking in the stunning views. We even made a furry friend, a sweet puppy who decided to join us on our adventure. Instead of taking the funicular back down, we opted for the four hour hike back into town, with our new puppy companion loyally following us the whole way.

Now, we’re off to our next island adventure: Langkawi!

Country number twenty-one of the trip, Malaysia 🇲🇾

We spent our first week in Kuala Lumpur. Turns out KL is just a massive city made up of what they call “Mega Malls.” Everything that you want to do is inside one of the hundreds of malls.

Later on this month, we have another week in Kuala Lumpur, so I’m going to save all our posts on the city until our second week is over.

Next, we headed to Ipoh by train. The trains here are clean, fast, and cheap. I would say they are the best way to get around Malaysia.

Ipoh amazed us. We absolutely fell in love with the city and the nature around town. It didn’t feel very touristy but had some amazing things to see. The street art scene in the old town was incredible, and they had this really cute street called Concubine St., where a bunch of street vendors sell unique snacks and treats.

Our next few posts will focus on Ipoh and the surrounding area, featuring all the amazing reasons why you need to add this city to your bucket list.

Sanur 🇮🇩

Our next two weeks in Bali were spent in Sanur, WITH FRIENDS!

and I have been talking now for over a year online. We talk so much, we already felt like we were long lost best friends. The stars finally aligned, and we were able to plan two weeks together in Bali.

We all immediately hit it off, and although we had to put a few plans on the back burner due to some illnesses, we had an incredible two weeks together and can’t wait to show you more from Sanur.

Nusa Dua 🇮🇩

Our next stop, and next country is Bali, Indonesia. The place everyone in the world raves about.

We spent our first 14 days in the island in Nusa Dua because I heard that’s where the best beaches were. Turns out, they were some of the worst beaches we’d ever laid our eyes on.

Lucky for us, our hotel pool was beautiful. We spent a lot of time relaxing pool side and exploring the more southern coast of Bali.

Would we recommend Nusa Dua? No, probably not. We’re actually pretty underwhelmed by Bali as a whole, but that’s a different story for a different day.

After our amazing eleven days adventuring around Bohol, it was time we made our way to Palawan. Originally we were hoping to get up to El Nido and Port Barton, but after looking at the roads and hearing some very stomach sick stories, we opted to just stay in Puerto Princesa and exploring from the city.

The few things we were able to do from the city were amazing. The city itself? A complete dump. We wouldn’t recommend spending more than a couple nights here, see the underground river, the Honda bay tour was also amazing, and make sure to visit Talaudyong Beach!!

Vietnam ✈️ Philippines

After our adventures in Halong, we returned to Hanoi for a couple more nights, soaking in the vibrant city life and catching up with friends. Now, we’re thrilled to be heading to our first stop in the Philippines: Cebu.

Our time in Lapu-Lapu City totaled 7 nights. Unfortunately, Lake developed a stubborn cough from the cold she’d fought off earlier. We spent most of the week managing her asthma.

In Cebu, our days were a mix of relaxing by the pool, enjoying the beach club, and indulging in a fun girls’ day out at the mall.

Next on our Philippines journey? The destination we’re eagerly anticipating: Bohol.

Halong Bay was high on our travel bucket list from the start. Honestly, it’s one of those places that inspired Justin to embrace wanderlust and explore the world!

Situated in Northern Vietnam, Halong Bay is recognized as one of the new 7 natural wonders of the world and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its iconic limestone formations tower over the stunning emerald waters below.

✨ What destination sparked your travel dreams like Halong Bay did for us?

Tam Coc 🇻🇳

After our action packed five days in Hanoi, we made our way to the more quiet, nature filled Tam Coc.

Tam Coc is only about a two hour drive from Hanoi, making this the perfect next stop for your northern Vietnam trip.

The area is known for its limestone mountains cascading high above different rice fields and rivers. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful places we’ve set our eyes on. This might be a top three for us of the whole trip 🤭

🇻🇳 T R A V E L G U I D E 🇻🇳

Hanoi, Vietnam. Our first glimpse into Vietnam life. We spent a total of 8 days in Hanoi (five to start, and three before flying out). Here’s our recommendations!

🏠 ACCOMMODATIONS

We booked both stays on . Our first stay we opted to stay in the old quarter to really get a feel for the city. We stayed at San Hanoi Hotel. The staff was great, and it was in the perfect location, but our room was the size of a shoebox, with no windows.

Our second stay, we opted to stay in the more trendy neighbourhood of Tay Ho. We stayed at Wild Lotus Hotel and much preferred this accommodation. For the same price, our room was massive with big windows. Extremely close to a ton of food and entertainment options.

🥢 GOOD EATS

Tried and tested (by us), these were our favourite restaurants and cafes in town! Sorry this list is so short for Ella, we had breakfast and dinner included at our hotel so didn’t need to eat out very often!

* Burgers:
* Brunch:
* Tacos:
* Desserts:
* Vietnamese:
* Harry Potter: .cafe
* Egg Coffee: .coffee
* Pizza:

🍻 MUST DOS

* Beer Street
* The Hanoi Club (golfing)
* Try All The Local Food
* Explore The Old Quarter

We spent our week wondering the small town, hiking up mountains, and scaling cliffs to reach waterfalls.

Guys, we’ve made it to Sri Lanka!!

I don’t know why this is so surreal to me. We’ve been travelling non stop for a year now, but for some reason Sri Lanka has always felt like one of those countries you can only dream about visiting.

But it’s not a dream anymore, we’re here and it’s just as beautiful as all the photos have looked.

Is this our favourite country so far? Maybe we’re too early in the month to say, but so far it’s looking that way (🤫 don’t tell Mexico).

We started our month stay here with a quick night stop in Colombo before making our way to our first real stop - Mirissa.

👇🏼 What country has been high on your bucket list for years?! Tell us in the comments below!

From chaos to calm, we decided to recharge our travel batteries in a sweet resort hideaway. Little did we know, two days of relaxation would have us itching for more than sunscreen! Turns out, we’re not cut out for the sun lounger life anymore.

🇴🇲 Oman seems like it would have been absolutely beautiful to explore. We wish we would have spent our budget exploring the country side rather than sitting pool side.

🏖️ Regarless, it was a very laid back week and a half here with beautiful beaches and a nice pool to sit by.

👇🏼 Have you ever chosen ‘chill’ but secretly craved the thrill of exploration? Share your stories with us!

Georgia Georgia Georgia… where do we begin?

Our journey unfolded early morning, jet-lagged after enduring a 24-hour travel day. In our fatigued state, we deviated from our usual ride-sharing practice and, without confirming the price, hopped into a taxi. The first 🚩 waved as we were directed to a parking lot, not the designated taxi area. Despite this odd start, we decided to proceed.

Thirty minutes into the ride, the bomb dropped – the taxi driver demanded 300 Georgian Lari, equivalent to a staggering 150 Canadian dollars! 😮 A quick check on our ride-sharing app revealed a mere 27 lari for the same journey. Justin, not one to back down, contested the exorbitant fee, leading to a confrontation. To our surprise, a mysterious figure pulled up, seemingly sent by the taxi driver, adding an intimidating layer to the situation. Not wanting to risk further escalation, we reluctantly paid up, but the encounter left us feeling uneasy. As a precaution, we swiftly changed our Airbnb accommodation.

The second Airbnb came with its own set of challenges – a freezing apartment due to a malfunctioning boiler. After a frustrating day, we decided to cut our losses and canceled that booking, opting instead for a hotel on the north side of the city. Defeated but relieved, we spent a cozy Christmas in the hotel room. Sometimes, the reality of full-time travel includes unexpected bumps in the road, and Tbilisi turned out to be a destination that didn’t align with our expectations.

Ever found yourself in a place that just didn’t live up to your travel expectations? Share your experiences below! 👇🏼
