Herds of gorgeous native ponies live and roam free in the splendour of Exmoor and it is always a great thrill to see these strong and intelligent creatures thriving.

We love searching out new restaurants and pubs to recommend to our Woodlands Holidays' guests and we've got a fantastic new addition to our 'Where to Eat' list - The Bittescombe Inn, Upton.

Just a 15-minute drive from Dulverton, The Bittescombe Inn has been superbly renovated to offer not only a much-loved local pub, but also a gorgeous dining room where you can enjoy expertly cooked and well-presented produce from the Bittescombe Estate and other top local suppliers.

We kicked-off with a super tasty starter of Devon wild mushrooms with parmesan cream on sourdough toast (£9). We then tried two main courses: the braised haunch of Bittescombe Estate venison & roasted loin, creamed potatoes, butternut squash with red wine sauce (£25) and the 10 oz Flat Iron steak, chips, dressed garden leaves, green peppercorn, tarragon & mustard butter (£25).

The food was incredible and we had a great evening - highly recommended!

When you stay at Woodlands Holidays you get the chance to explore the extraordinary Seven Fables Dulverton. It’s an emporium for book and art lovers where nature, creativity and talent meet.

This weekend we were delighted to be invited to join one of their famous Book Walks to celebrate the summer solstice with best-selling author Katherine May.

A stroll above into Burridge Woods and a circle made where we heard Katherine’s insights into how and why she wrote her book - exploring the restorative powers of the natural world.

Good chats followed by an excellent picnic by Exmoor Feasting Company - best evening walk in the woods ever!

The ever-popular Dulverton Farmers Market is kicking off its 2023 season on Saturday 29 April. So if you love trying out locally-produced food, drink and crafts, then book your stay at Woodlands Holidays which is just a two-minute walk from the marketplace in the centre of town.

Dulverton Farmers Market takes place on the last Saturday of the month – April to September – from 10am to 2.30pm.

Fabulous craftspeople such as Simply Hide, plus many more will be there. More news to come on stallholders soon!
