Love Amex points but also enjoy saving cash? Here's the secret: earn BOTH with Rakuten!

Rakuten, formerly Ebates, lets you shop your favorite stores (think Macy's, Target, Nike) and earn cash back. But guess what? You can choose to convert that cash back to Amex Membership Rewards points instead!

********TL;DR: If you want a great travel card that offers really good trip protection, and you want extra sign up points and a low annual fee, get this card. ********

If you want to take advantage of the elevated Sign Up Bonus, now is the time. It is about to go away. It will drop back down to 60k instead of the current 80k. There is a $99 annual fee BUT you get a $50 travel credit each year dropping this fee to $49.

In addition to the sign up points that you can redeem for travel, this cards real perks when it comes to travel insurance and car rental insurance.

If you book a rental with this card, you get primary insurance coverage. Meaning you don't need to purchase additional car insurance. And if you need to use insurance, you would use Chase first before needing to go thru your personal car insurance. Other cards like Amex Plat are secondary coverage meaning they cover what your personal insurance doesn't. But you have to use your personal insurance first. But not with Chase Sapphire.

With travel insurance, if you book ANY portion of your flight with this card, you are covered. Airlines only offer hotels and meals when the delay or cancelation is due to something under their control. Like staff issues, mechanical issues But for things outside of their control like weather, you are SOL. Not when you book with chase.

Trip delay: chase will cover expenses when its outside of the airlines control. So if a storm delays your flight until the next day, you can take an uber to a hotel, book the hotel, go out to dinner, and uber back to the airport, and chase will reimburse all those costs up to $500 per person whom were on the reservation booked with the sapphire.

Trip cancelation: chase will reimburse up to 10k per person, 20K per trip of all prepaid expenses (hotels tours, transportation) if your trip is canceled or cut short by sickness, severe weather and other covered situations. This card also covers baggage delays.

And another big perk is extended warranty. Chase will extend a manufacturers warranty by a year for anything that comes with less than 3 years warranty. So if you buy something that only has a year warranty, chase will extend that warranty by another year for no additional cost. You just need to purchase the item with the card.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Some people have asked about how to get the Southwest Companion Pass. There are loads of info out there on how to earn, but thought I would share here in case anyone has any questions.

The Southwest Companion pass allows you to bring a companion for “free” anytime you book a flight with cash or points. You need to accumulate 130k Southwest Points in a calendar year in order to earn the pass. Once you earn the pass, it is good for the remainder of the year you earned it as well as the entire following year. So if you were to accumulate 130K points in June 2023, you would have the pass the rest of 2023 and all of 2024. So if you earn the pass in January of 2024, you would have the pass for all of 2024 and all of 2025. That’s why most people wait to start the process towards the end of the year.

The easiest way to earn the points is by signing up for one personal credit card and one business credit card. You can NOT hold two personal cards. But you CAN hold two business cards. The best option is one biz and one personal though. And the two cards I think give you the most bag for your buck is the Priority personal card and the business Performance card. I did a breakdown of the benefit you get with those two cards.

There are 5 different SW credit cards. 3 Personal and 2 Business:

https://www.referyourchasecard.com/226m/U6TOKYE7QX

The trick to getting the companion pass for the most amount of time is by signing up for the business card at the End of October/beginning of November and signing up for the personal card a few weeks later. This is because you have 3 months to hit the minimum spend. BUT you don’t want to hit the minimum spend until January. This way you accumulate the sign up bonus points in January so you get the companion pass for nearly 2 full years. If you hit the minimum spend before January, you will only have the pass for one year.

The minimum spend for the business card is $5k and the personal card is $1k. Meaning, you need to spend $6k within 3 months. That’s why planning is important. I am a pretty thrifty person but when I know I need to hit a minimum spend to get sign up points for a card, I plan ahead. I will plan big expenses to hit the spend. For example, I’ll pay for my 6-month car insurance premium at the end of the year, I will plan to do dental work at the end of the year since it’s a bigger expense, and I’ll pay my pets insurance policy for the year. Other ways to hit spend is by pre-paying utilities, putting Christmas present purchases on the card, and even buying gift cards to places you normally shop; Amazon, gas stations, grocery stores, Wal-mart, Target, Costco…

Anyone can sign up for a business card. Here is a link with more information about it. But basically, if you have ever sold anything to anyone, like through FB marketplace, a yard sale, Ebay, Craigslist, you are a sole proprietor and eligible for a business card. You are a business, albeit a SMALL business.

How to apply for a business card as a sole proprietor:

https://upgradedpoints.com/credit-cards/business/how-to-apply-and-qualify-for-a-small-business-credit-card/

Once you hit the minimum spend in January, and you get your 130K sign up bonus points, you will have enough points that you will automatically earn the Companion Pass. Then you are free to use your points to book a flight for yourself. And assign someone to be your companion. Flights booked on points and flights booked by your companion are subject to a $5.60 fee for taxes. So, on a roundtrip flight, it would be $11.20 per person.

If you have questions, please ask them. I love sharing this kind of information.

One of the biggest issues with traveling is having the money for travel. I like to be able to snag a deal when I find one so I always have money set aside for travel even if I don’t have a specific trip in mind.

One of my favorite ways to save for a trip is using savings apps. These apps will withdraw funds from your checking account and set them aside for specific things. You can create different goals for different purposes.

There are free apps and paid apps. Here I will share my favorite free app, Yotta.

Yotta is a free app that does not charge you anything to use. It is a fun app in that depending on the amount of money you save, you earn tickets. Those tickets are kind of like lottery tickets. There are daily drawings and you have a chance to earn a lot of money. But just like the real lottery, those chances are slim. But hey, at least with this lottery, you don’t lose any money playing.

You can sign up online here: https://members.withyotta.com/register

And if you'd like to use me as a referral, plus in my name when you sign up: ANGELICA12

I like these types of savings apps because it removes the money from my checking account. Out of sight, out of mind. The temptation to spend the money isn't there because I forget that its exists. Where as if I keep the money in my bank account, I see it constantly.

Interested in staying up to 2 free nights in Vegas? How about scoring BOGO buffet prices? Maybe you’re interested in free/discounted show tickets? Maybe you want $25 free play to use on the real slot machines in Vegas? Then you need to hop on the myVegas rewards bus.

There are 4 myVegas app games that are slots. You can play all 4 to earn myVip Rewards that you can redeem for real Vegas rewards.
Some people think that it take too long to accumulate reward points. I am here to show you it doesn’t have to. Most people play the games one at a time on their phones. The apps reward points based on the amount of time the app is open/being played. So it takes can take a while for you to max out your daily points each day. But that’s only if you do it the wrong way.

Here’s how to max out your reward points. All you need is an android phone and access to a PC for an hour a day. You can download an emulator onto your PC that will let you play the app games on your computer. This is how you play all 4 games at the same time and how you max out your reward points in about an hour.
Its best if you already have the games downloaded on your phone and ensure you have them linked to your Facebook. This is important because in order to link all the games to pool the reward points together, they all need to be linked to the same account,
Then you want to download Bluestacks onto your PO. Here is a link to it and some instructions on how to set it up so you can play the apps on your PC.

https://www.bluestacks.com/blog/game-guides/myvegas-slots-free-casino/how-to-play-mvs-on-pc-mac-en.html

You can all 4 of the myVegas games to the emulator and play them all at the same time. You can play even more myVegas games that are not slots (there's a blackjack, a tetris, and a bingo game) but these require active play. The slot games have an option to auto-spin. Meaning you can set them up to play on their own and walk away. You can check back on them every 15 or so minutes to make sure they haven’t crashed. But these games will max out on points in about an hour. I usually set these up to play while I am getting ready for work, or when I’m making dinner.

The amount of points each game earns varies a bit. I have noticed on average, if I play all 4 slot games, and max out the reward points, I can earn between 20 and 30k points per day. Meaning, if you max out the points per day, for 5 days a week, you’ll earn 100k reward points a week. I’ll post some examples of what you can redeem those points for in the photos. The important part to remember is that the points are based on time. So you need only bet the very minimum amount per spin.

There are groups that post links to free playing chips. So if you ever run out of chips, DO NOT BUY MORE. You can spend a couple days just collecting free playing chips. This is a great group to join to ask questions or find out more tips about redeeming rewards.

04/04/2023

Hey there! I'm sure most of you have heard of point.me, right? It's been around for a year and helps you find live award space inventory and shows you different ways to book that space. But let's be real, it's got its issues. It's a bit quirky, not 100% accurate, and sometimes shows phantom space or misses space that actually exists. But the worst part? It's really slow. On average, it takes over 3 minutes to run a single search for a route and date, so it's tough to use when you're not sure what you're looking for.

BUT, I'm excited to share a new tool with you today called Roame.travel! It's similar to point.me in that it helps you search for award space, but the biggest difference is that it's lightning-fast. Most searches return results in as little as 4-5 seconds, making it way more user-friendly than other tools out there.

And the best part? It's completely free! No billing info needed, just sign up and start searching. The founders made it a priority to keep it free as a way to give back to the points and miles community, so it's a win-win for all. (They might offer a premium tier in the future with more features, but they've promised to keep a free option available for basic searches like we can do now.)

Right now, Roame covers 10 airline programs, including all three major alliances (OneWorld, SkyTeam, and Star Alliance) as well as programs with non-alliance airline partners like Aeroplan, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and Emirates Skywards. They'll be adding more programs over time, but for now, they cover most of the major programs you'll need to find and book award space.

Roame is the best free airline redemption search engine. Fly in style and in luxury for the best deals.

04/04/2023

If you are new to the credit card points game, you should start with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

You need to own a Sapphire card in order to utilize the Chase Ultimate Reward Points. These are probably the most valuable points in the market since you can easily transfer them to different transfer partners. Meaning, you can transfer your chase points to Hyatt to redeem for hotel stays, or you can transfer to an airline to redeem for flights.

Transferring is the most critical part in maximizing your points. Other cards might offer points that you have to use within their portal. You do not get a good redemption value for those. usually its about 1 to 1.5 cents per point. This is a bad redemption rate.

This is a great starter card because it allows you access to the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal an allows you the ability to transfer points. But it also has the lowest annual fee. Don't let annual fees deter you from getting a credit card. The annual fees are always far less tan the value you can get from the card/points you earn if you use them correctly.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred (or CSP as many refer to it) has an annual fee of $95. However, you get $50 of it back by way of hotel credit. If you book a hotel through their portal, you get a $50 credit. Making the annual fee $45.

But here is where the care in super valuable. The CSP offers great travel coverage. Whenever you book a car rental with your CSP, it will act as your primary insurance. You can decline coverage from the rental agency. And should you get in an accident, you can use the Chase insurance first before using your own personal insurance. Most other cards only offer secondary coverage (even Amex Plat). I always use my CSP to book car rentals.

Second huge perk is the trip delay coverage. If an airline has to cancel your flight, and needs to rebook you for the next day, they will only offer you a hotel room if the delay/cancellation is due to something under their control. For example, they have a mechanical issue or staffing issue. They will not help you out if the delay/cancellation is due to weather. This is where the CSP comes into play.

My flight home from Vegas was cancelled due to weather. Since this delay was not covered by the airline, my CSP coverage kicked in. I was able to book a hotel, take ubers to and from the hotel/airport, purchase meals, and any other necessities. My CSP will reimburse up to $500 per person who is on the reservation. The only catch is, you have to buy the fare with the CSP. HOWEVER, you don't have to purchase the entire fare with the card. I often book flights using points and pay the $5 in taxes with my CSP. I still get the coverage.

The CSP is the starting point and your way into the Chase UR points. You can earn points with other Chase cards, but you need to hold a Sapphire (CSP OR CSR) in order to have access to the Chase UR site that lets you transfer points. Otherwise, the points are only good for cash back, and again, that's a HORRIBLE redemption value.

If you have any questions regarding the CSP, please ask away!

Here is a great offer for discounted stay at a timeshare resort.

In addition to 3 discounted nights at one of their various locations, you will also get 100,000 Hilton points you can use at ANY Hilton hotel.

The only "catch" is you have to sit through a 2 hour timeshare presentation. While these offers for discounted timeshare stays are frequent, this one is a great deal since it also comes with the additional 100,000 Hilton points. Depending on where you use your points, you are getting 2 vacations for $150+tax (my total came to around $168).

Timeshares can be a great option for some people. And not so great option for other people. But timeshare preview packages are a great option for ANYONE who wants a free or dirt cheap trip in exchange for 2 hours of their time. You don't have to buy a timeshare to benefit from these packages. You just have to sit there and listen to their presentation and at the 2 hour mark, thank them for their time, say you are not interested at this time. And you will possibly think about it. You have fulfilled your 2 hour commitment and you can get up and leave. It can be high pressure but if you are strong willed and know how to say no, these are great options.

Different time share companies have different rules. I believe Westgate lets you sit in on up to 4 presentations a year. Meaning you can take 4 extremely cheap vacation a year with them. But there are other options like Wyndham Vacations, Hilton Grand Vacations, Hyatt Residence Club, Holiday Inn Club... You can take advantage of all of those options, year after year. If you can spare 2 hours of your vacation in exchange for a dirt cheap getaway, this is an option for you.

The below offer is $79. You get back $100 Visa gift card making this FREE. You just give them 2 hours of your time. And this is one of the many ways we travel for dirt cheap.

Experience the fun of a 4-Day Orlando Getaway With $100 at the luxury Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa. Enjoy Treasure Cove Water Park and more!

17/05/2022

Southwest has officially added their new fare class: Wanna Get Away PLUS.

While we all know that Southwest isn't a glitzy ✨First Class✨ kind of airline, and they don't nickel and dime you for seat selection or checked bags, so there really isn't a reason to buy anything other than the cheapest Wanna Get Away fare... UNTIL NOW.
The new fare class offers three benefits the cheapest option doesn't offer.

1. You can TRANSFER your flight credit to another person should you cancel your trip. Previously, the credit would only apply to the person on the original booking. Maybe you had to cancel because of an illness but you won't be able to use the credit before it expires. Now you can transfer to friend or family member to use before it expires.

2. You can make same-day confirmed changes to your flight if its between the same cities. So as long as the new flight is on the same day, and is starting and ending in the same cities as the original flight, you can change it, for FREE. Previously, there was a charge for this (you had to pay the difference between old flight and new flight).

3. You can also request to be added to same-day standby list if there are no open seats in the above option. Meaning you were unable to confirm changes since there was no open seats left, you can try to standby and catch that flight should someone not show up, for FREE.

WHY this is a great value? In the attached example, say I want to travel from San Diego to Chicago. Say I want an early flight leaving San Diego, but I want a later flight coming back. I can book the PLUS fare at $225 each (vs the $195 each flights). And then request to change them to the earlier flight that, had I booked originally, would have cost me at least $343 each. So by paying $60 more, I could potentially save $236.

And this is just looking at direct flights. Sometimes the cheapest flights include a layover and the direct flight is way more expensive. I could book the one with the layover and request to change to the direct flight. Not only saving money, but saving time. And the worst case scenario is I have to take a less desirable flight.

I definitely do not recommend people buy timeshares (especially direct when you can get them for 'free' from resellers), but I do think sitting through a 90 minute presentation in exchange for a free accomodations is worth it.

Claim the free trip, sit through the 90 minute presentation, thank them for their time and decline purchasing a timeshare. I repeat, DO NOT BUY A TIMESHARE FROM THEM!

But definitely use them for the free accomodations. You can sign up for a free trip using the info below. Please be aware of the terms (minimum income can always be fibbed because they don't check).

Once you attend one timeshare, the other timeshare companies will start sending you offers. And just bounce around from one free offer to another.
