Wales is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. A distinct nation, Wales boasts its own language, culture, and rich history, with breathtaking landscapes to match.

Did you know:
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales has more castles per square mile than any other country in Europe.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Welsh is the oldest language in Britain and is spoken by around a third of Welsh people.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales has three unique national Parks - Eryri (Snowdonia) to the north, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) to the south, and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

From the rugged peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park to the soft sand beaches of Pembrokeshire, every corner of Wales is packed with new discoveries.

Here at Wilderness England, we aren’t afraid to stand up and help shape travel as a force for good.

Look on our website and all of our trips have been carbon labelled. We talk about e-vehicles and including more local produce in the meals on our trips.

But how can you be sure we are everything we claim to be? Over the next few weeks, we’ll be peeling back the layers to look closer at our sustainability work.

Eda Frandsen is a historic gaff cutter, built in 1938 and restored in 1996. At 60ft, she is the perfect vessel for exploring the hidden coves and sheltered bays of the UK’s coastline.

But space is, of course, limited. No more so than in the galley.

Yet it is here that owner Stella creates culinary magic. Each day aboard, enjoy fresh, local produce, sustainably served in an array of mouthwatering dishes from the kitchen.

Now that the New Year bells have stopped ringing and the Christmas decorations have come down, it is time to wave goodbye to the festive period for another year.

We’ve drunk mugs of warm apple cider, pulled paper crackers filled with party hats and terrible jokes, and walked off hearty pies through the frostbitten countryside.

Now, the promise of a new year hangs bright and fresh, offering endless opportunities for adventure to places old and new. Where will you discover in 2025?

Discover the UK coastline from a whole new angle.

Sailing aboard Eda Frandsen, a traditional gaff cutter, is something special—a perfect mix of timeless tradition and a sense of adventure. Every moment on deck tells its own story, whether about the craftsmanship of this beautiful boat or the stunning seascapes that surround you.

Built in Denmark in 1938, Eda Frandsen spent decades braving the North Sea as a fishing trawler before her hull was lovingly restored on Scotland’s remote Knoydart peninsula. Now, she’s ideally suited for exploring the wild coastlines of the British Isles.

Feel the sea spray on your skin, the wind in your hair, and the gentle creak of the wooden deck beneath your feet. With a small, friendly crew, life on the Eda Frandsen is all about good company, hearty laughter and memories you’ll treasure for years to come.

“For me, this was an adventure of a lifetime. It was phenomenal from all aspects. Seeing all of the beautiful sights and experiencing the different cultures was awesome. I loved having time on ferries or boats that took us past different coasts and the beautiful scenery to get us to a new destination.”

The Five Countries cycling tour is an epic 13 day ride spanning England, Wales, the Republic of Ireland (where this photo was taken), Northern Ireland and Scotland. Whether you choose a road bike or an E-bike, there is nothing quite like the thrill of seeing so much of these ancient lands from the saddle.
