Nowadays, it is Mill Race Park (Galt, Ontario). At the turn of the 20th century, it was the site of Cowan & Co., Ltd.
In 1896, one of its dynamos was installed just north of Alexandria, in the Delisle River power station (perhaps a topic for a future post…). This introduced electricity to 300 Alexandrian homes & businesses: a forecast of future hydro development.
A punny excerpt from the/un extrait comique du Glengarry News:
“The dynamo for the electric light has now been placed in the pumping station by Mr. Wm. McKay, of Seaforth, and there will be more light on the subject shortly”.😊
