What started as a side project in my basement has now turned into one of the most beautiful Hobbit-themed rental suites in the country. Nestled in beautiful Russellville, Arkansas, we’re only a few miles from some of the most amazing natural attractions this state has to offer. The natural beauty of our region shines through in the delicate craftsmanship we’ve put into this house.
Over the last 5 years we’ve spent close to $70,000 to finish out the basement and create this fabulous overnight experience for you and your guests. And we still have many cool things to add! We want your stay to be relaxing, private, and something you’ll want to revisit year after year. Once you experience the quality and comfort of this Hobbit-themed bnb, you won’t want to stay anywhere else.
The Hobbit-themed house started out as a fun project. I wanted to build a cozy cabin-like getaway for myself and my friends. I always wanted a cabin and have yet to buy one so I decided to transform my basement into my own little hide-away. In my spare time I mentor groups of teenagers and young men, so I wanted to place where they can meet and gather in a group and enjoy themselves. Five years ago I started by buying my first load of cedar from a local lumber mill. Then I began to tear down the old drop ceiling (it looked like an office). I decided I wanted at least two unique signature doors in this space. After weeks of combing through different ideas of castle doors, vintage doors, etc. I pulled inspiration from one of my favorite movie series of all time, and settled upon a Hobbit door. If you’re going to create a Hobbit door. why not do the most famous Hobbit door? We decided to duplicate the door from Bilbo Baggins’s house. It’s solid, heavy, and beautiful. It swings on a hinge and give the entire space an authentically “shire” feel.
Now going in my fifth year of construction, and almost $70,000 later, we are about 75% done with everything I want to add to the space. In the next few months we hope to have the entire thing done. It will then feature a full kitchen and dining room exclusively for guest use!
