🚁 Have you ever wondered what you could fly with an LAPL qualification? 🤔

With an LAPL, you can take control of a helicopter with a maximum takeoff weight of 2000 kg or less and carry up to three passengers. You can fly popular models such as R44, R22 Cabri, Enstrom, and Schweitzer.

Although you won't be able to fly larger aircraft or turbine-powered machines as you would with a PPL, it's a great place to start your flying journey.

This tour will depart from Cardiff Heliport and route over Cardiff Bay – from above you will be able to see all of the famous landmarks Cardiff Bay has to offer including the Pierhead Building, Welsh Senedd, Millennium Centre, additionally the set of BBC’s Casualty and St David’s Hotel.

From Cardiff Bay we will fly over the Barrage towards Penarth where you will be able to see the 125-year-old and 658-foot-long Penarth Pier, which is one of only two surviving pleasure piers in South Wales. Continuing along the coast towards Lavernock, you will be able to see Weston-Super-Mare over the Bristol Channel as well as Welsh island Flat Holm and English island Steep Holm – known collectively as ‘The Wolves’ these two small islands were fortified to protect the Bristol Channel ports in the 1860s.

From Lavernock we will fly you over Barry Island, home of BBC’s popular sitcom ‘Gavin and Stacey’ where you will see all the regular filming locations from the show. From above you will be able to see all of Barry’s popular beaches including Jackson’s Bay, Whitmore Bay and Cold Knap, as well as the hustle and bustle of Barry Island Pleasure Park which opened back in 1897 and totals 24 attractions to date.

Flying over the Vale of Glamorgan towards Cardiff’s city centre, to the left you will see Wales’ home for rugby, the Principality Stadium and Cardiff Arms Park, and to the right Wales’ home for football, the Cardiff City Stadium. Continuing over the city centre you will fly over 1,967-year-old Cardiff Castle and Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground (formerly the SSE SWALEC Stadium) which has been host to World Cup and Ashes series.

From the city centre, we will route over towards Llandaff which is known for being ‘a city within a city’ because of its status as the seat of the Bishop of Llandaff. Llandaff is largely popular for being the birthplace of author Roald Dahl, and home to 733-year-old Llandaff Cathedral. From here the helicopter will make its way back over the rest of the city and Cardiff Bay where we will return you back to the heliport.
