Life has been challenging recently.
I have asked myself why had I gone through the tough times before this during this past year already? Now I know why…. Had I not been so challenged before this double hurricane came I may not have been strong enough to weather this. Yes … it is a lot, but Gods got me. My family and friends have got me. THAT is how you put one foot in front of the other. Lean on the support of God and others, and of course a good cleansing cry is also helpful. Life is too short to give up now. Time to say thank you and grow. Have a great week everyone !

Hi Everyone, we have been busy taking care of our property. The picture of the little blue sand shovel reminded me of when our sons John and Noah went down with me and helped with the Hurricane recovery efforts in Galveston TX, after Hurricane Ike hit that area. It was sort of sweet seeing the little blue shovel seeking shelter under the clusia bushes. While we were cleaning up down there the boys saw many toys among the debris. We have a raised house and were more fortunate than the folks with single story homes . Many many people will have lost everything. When we drove around our neighborhood you could clearly see the entire contents of their house (and their life) was now at the curb. We will have incurred losses of goods but all can be replaced. The clean up was long and exhausting. Certain days were physically exhausting and other days were both mentally and physically exhausting as you reached out to insurance adjusters and suppliers to replace your goods. Taking off drywall to not find no mold is always a good thing. We flew our son Matt down to help with the clean up and to help me drive black to Illinois. Ken stayed and continued with the clean up, met with the Insurance Adjustors and then he flew to Montreal where his client is. We accomplished a lot and we are holding our breath that Hurricane Milton will be kind to us and our community. Matt and I made it home safely from our drive. PLEASE keep the prayers coming for the safety of the folks in Florida. Everyone of those prayers is GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Everyone,
In the middle of the night, got up to use the bathroom to find out the hotel had a pipe break in the laundry room and the hotel's water was turned off.... Once again water is haunting us...Can't make this stuff up. We got up early to speak to the mechanic to get our car back on the road. The mechanic that we had the car towed to coud not take our car until Friday. That will not work so off it was towed to another shop a mile away. They said they could get it up and running by 2:00. Ken Ubered to the new mechanic and stayed with the car and I worked from the hotel. I got one call completed regarding the flooding of our home and then Verizon suffered a nationwide outage. Not good timing ... I attempted a few emails to reach people and they are swamped and can't get back to you. I went downstairs to the lobby and once again when the staff heard about my dilemma they offered for me to use the phone in the office of the marketing manager. Minor phone call crisis averted. Phone calls were made, suitcase packed, cooler was filled with new ice Ken picked me up and it was off to Walmart for supplies that aren't available by our home in IRB because they are all sold out. Critical purchase, a dehumidifier. We made good time during the second half of our day and were even able to find some ice cream along the way to keep us going. Anybody who knows our family.... we LOVE our ice cream. Found our hotel later that night and had a good nights sleep. We are making good time today as well. Should be at our house in IRB later this afternoon where the real work begins.Ken and I are playing nice... it helps. Keep the prayers coming. I feel your well wishes and good Karma! Our journey to Florida was halted yesterday. The van lost its electrical system and died. Before it died we limped our way up the hill, because of course when your car is dying the exit you make it to has an up hill ramp instead of a down hill ramp. I need to find some humor here.... ps it was pouring out. Lucky for me I had packed us a nice cooler full of food to nosh on while we waited. Club Crackers with Cherrywood ham and honey mustard and the drinks were still cold. The day before I left I charged my additional phone charging block. Good thing I did because as you know a dead car cannot provide power to charge your phone. Once we were safe we put our call into our towing service and two hours later we were on our way to drop the car off via the tow truck to a car repair place. Thanks to Chris the tow truck driver who was out in the driving rain taking care of our van. After the car was dropped off it was an Uber ride to the hotel and then a good night's sleep. Sunday - Buffet breakfast to start the day today and then we were off to church. There was one within walking distance from our hotel. When we asked the front desk for directions they asked us where our car was. We told them it was towed last night and we would be walking to church. After hearing that they offered to drive us to church in their hotel shuttle van. We pulled up to the front door of the church and there wasn't anyone in the parking lot. The sign said they had sustained a fire in the church and that mass would be celebrated at Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart was only 5 minutes down the road so the shuttle van driver Rolanda, said she would be happy to take us. We arrived at Sacred Heart with a few minutes to spare. Mass was beautiful and very much needed to give us pause and gain some peace. A baptism was celebrated during mass. Pretty fitting as we go down and look over the damage from the waters of the Gulf. Maybe the flooding could be a sign of a washing or of new birth . Maybe all of those beach communities will go through a new birth. Perhaps Paster Andy Gordon can give us some more connections to that 🙂 As part of mass we sang The Servants Song.The second verse really spoke to Ken and I. "We are pilgrims on a journey. We are brothers on the road. We are here to help each other. Walk the mile and bear the load." After mass we said hello to the head pastor Father Adam and told him how we came to be there today. He blessed us and then asked how he could help? We said well our car broke down and we could use a ride back to the hotel. He said no problem, turned to the parishioner next to him named John and asked him for a ride for us. John gladly said yes and we were delivered safely to the hotel. We have many people and things who are blessing in our life. The last few days the blessings keep coming. As for today, I will sit in the business lounge in the hotel and go through the photos my neighbor sent us of our home since we could not make it there today. Checklists need to be made. Supplies ordered etc. We are safe and from the looks of the pictures our neighbor was able to send us, our home will be good as we had 2 feet of water in our home. Appliances can be replaced as well as the golf cart and all the other items. Please keep the prayers coming for our beach community of Indian Rocks Beach. I included links of how to donate to the community in my first post about our flooded house if you would like to help out. I will be going back to IRB in November and can take things with me if you want to drop them off at my house. … being shown some love today. We had a break between guests. Great time to spruce up the place. We painted. Our Landscaper and his crew gave the vegetation a little trim. We had the lanai and pool deck areas power washed and the pool guy came today as well. Hard work to keep our “guest ready”.Even though it was really hot today, it is always a proud moment when we take the time to help our property shine. We have been blessed with a healthy rental season so far. With many stays come a bit of wear and tear. Invest the time and it will come back to you in great guest reviews and happy clients. Come stay with us… make memories. Our Vacation Home is great for multigenerational families. Plenty of space for everyone.
