Corfe Castle: Corfe Castle will celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th anniversary as monarch over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend in June 2022. Sturminster Marshall: will be hosting a public event to celebrate the platinum Jubilee. The 34th Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride will take place on Sunday 3 July. There are four routes to choose from and all of them will pass through Blandford. Whether you would like to be a rider or volunteer for the event Stourpaine Cottage will make a wonderful base.

International Dawn Chorus Day! It’s nature's party season and you’re invited to a music festival like no other. The dawn chorus is warming up and some of the headliners will be blackbirds and robins, plus appearances from legends like cuckoos and nightingales. We also have a resident owl nesting in a tree nearby.

A great way to explore the coast is by boat. City Cruises are offering coastal tours starting in Poole which is aprox. 25 mins from the Cottage. Sit back enjoy a cup of a tea or a glass of wine as you travel along the coast.

National Trust Adventure: Stourhead Wiltshire. This is a beautiful day out. You can explore the grounds, visit the manor house and they even have a lovely pub after all that walking. We recently set off to explore some of the local vineyards. Rebecca and Anna at Furleigh Estates vineyard kindly welcomed us to be their first COVID friendly tour last week. We had such a wonderful time learning about their journey and the art of making wine especially in the UK. After the tour and tasting we headed over to the Hive Beach cafe and had some great seafood as we watched the waves and the beach.

For those of you dreaming of the sand and sea in this wonderful weather, Church Ope Cove is a great little find. It's quiet and not too touristy.

A genuine smugglers cove that is believed to be the landing site of the first ever Viking raids on the British Isles, Church Ope is situated beneath the ruins of Rufus Castle on the sheltered eastern side of Portland. Offering sanctuary from the prevailing wind and opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and fishing; the beach is accessed from steps that lead down from Rufus Castle, a short walk from Portland Museum.

This Roman and Iron Age Hill fort is accessible on a little trail from the village. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hod-hill/trails/hod-hill-perambulation. Lovely little walk and there is a way to keep going to the sister hill (Hambledon Hill).

UK English Wine Week Continued!!! Our next treasure is Langham Wine's https://langhamwine.co.uk/. This vineyard is a short drive from the cottage. Currently Langham is offering three lovely picnic baskets that can be purchased up to the day before. These can then be enjoyed by the vines with a lovely bottle of cold sparkling wine.
