The Gheralta Mountains chain is found deep within the northern high plateau of the Tigray region.
The geography of the Gheralta range is one of the most striking landscapes in all of Ethiopia. Its picturesque setting, dazzling heights, age-old rock painting churches from the middle ages make it one of the premium destinations to be explored. Some churches found in Gheralta mountains are reached through hiking and climbing.

Of the countless churches in the area, 35+ are accessible via different routes, all well-worn by an epoch’s worth of pilgrims, priest, travellers and tourists, each ascending the steep stone walls for the same solitary reason, to witness, first hand, the secrets held within.
From the churches of Gheralta, Abune Yemata Guh, Maryam korkor, and Daniel korkor are fascinating and frequently visited ones. Abune Yemata guh is a very beautiful painted church carved into a tall perpendicular sandstone pinnacle and accessed by a cliff face. Though regular visitors clamber up with ease, travelers often climb this rock face wrapped in ropes and harnesses.

The Banna people, also Banya, are an OMOTIC ethnic group in Ethiopia that inhabit the Lower Omo Valley, primarily between the Weyto town and Omo rivers. According to the 2007 census, their population is around 47,000 people. They engage primarily in agriculture and supplement this by Pastoralism, hunting and gathering.
Banna children are known of the plays stilts. Children of the Banna tribe in Ethiopia with traditional body painting, playing on wooden stilts.

Lalibela is known for its distinctive rock-cut churches dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, which are pilgrimage sites for Coptic Christians. Carved out of rock, the subterranean monoliths include huge Bete Medhane Alem, and cross-shaped Bete Giyorgis. Many are joined by tunnels and trenches, and some have carved bas-reliefs and colored frescoes inside.

Harar is a city in eastern Ethiopia. It’s surrounded by a centuries-old defensive wall that has several large gates, including Duke's Gate. The city is known for its mazelike alleys and traditional houses decorated inside with flat hanging baskets. A replica house features at the Harar Community Centre Museum. A holy Islamic city, Harar has many mosques, including the Grand Jami Mosque with its tall white minarets.

Harar is Known for its famous array of markets, the famous Hyena Men (Hyena feeding), ancient paintings and artefacts spanning all cultures, it's easy to get lost in the never-ending maze of the winding streets of Harar.

There's nowhere on earth quite like Abuna Yemata Guh.

Abuna Yemata Guh is a monolithic church located in Tigray, Ethiopia. It is situated at a height of 2,580 metres (8,460 ft) and has to be climbed on foot to reach.
