Capacity Building to understand the different aspects of Community based Tourism is essential in the ever changing market trends and demands towards this area of tourism.
There is a huge gap between the bigger and smaller tour operators , therefore tool kits, available for the small tour operators more specifically in the area of community based tourism is most vital for their growth and sustainability.

We're excited to share the first video in which we interview Matelita Katamotu, ASA (CPA Aust.). Together with her mataqali (clan), she developed Domoika Adventures (waterfall hike, camping and rock climbing) as an alternative livelihood source during the Covid-19 pandemic. This initiative maximises community control and shares the benefits with nearby villages...as well as offering an alternative to mining which has regularly been proposed in the area. We loved Matelita's passion for the - the land and her people - and we're sure that you will too! (Bonus: if you view the whole video you might spot a very bedraggled researcher who inadvertently slipped on rocks and face planted on one of the many river crossings 😆 ).
Please share this with anyone else who might be interested in our Indigenous Voices on Tourism YouTube channel.

It is wonderful to see Fiji come up on the top choice under Expedia for guests coming in from Australia.!
Wonderful news for the growing cultural, indigenous, rural and adventurous tourism community.
It has been an incredible journey for the mataqali(communally) who communally owns Domoika Adventures.
We are truly grateful to all stakeholders and partners who have helped supported us through the twelve months journey in this Tourism Journey.
Over the 12 months since the honorable Lenora Qereqeretabua launched Domoika into the market. We have successfully :

2. Successfully completed a GGGI Green entrepreneurs programme of which 4 youths participated in the last quarter of 2022
3. Secured and won a QATAR funded seed grant through GGG1
4. Became a participant at the YHER Programme early of 2023 , where our mothers participated in ;
5. Received support from Pacific Trade Investment Australia for the creation of our website
6. Helped provide advocacy, training and partner with local villagers as part of the community empowerment
7. Outsourced work to four other villagers in the province
8. Received support from National Trust of Fiji to send two of our youths for further training on Bird Surveys and other field training for biodiversity
We thank our more than 300 guests who choose us for the experience.
If you and your friends are looking to explore some of Fiji's natural outdoors , learn fijian traditional dances, cook delicious fijian meals, enjoy nature walks or take the risk of experiencing a scenic hike to 7 consecutive waterfalls, camp overnight or simply stay over in the villages.

Bula nakwa, A short summary of what Domoika is all about , who operates domoika, and the three initial products that was launched onto the market on the 11th June 2022. The basis of birthing this communally owned nature based eco tourism project was to meet the fundamental principles of : 1. Empowering young youths & women in rural settings to become resourceful landowners ; 2. Providing them a platform to earn a sustainable form of income through direct employment as well as provide an opportunity for other villagers to be able to sell their agricultural produce directly to our guests while becoming financial independent ; 3. Provide an opportunity for school leavers to become qualified in the area of need for the business by sending through further training in becoming professional tour guides, culinary, carpentary and understanding and acquiring business skills ; 3.Bringing in sustainable developments into village settings ; 4. Imparting to land owners the need to be accountable in protecting the environment while providing an opportunity for guests to enjoy the pristine and natural surroundings up in the highlands . Most importantly replenshing the mataqali scholarship trust funds to sustain and support the future members of the mataqali Dakunibure in the little village of Waivaka. Nakwa saka.
