We are continuing our Sustaining Member program again in 2023. It is a way for members to give a little extra to the Association and in return receive a limited, special patch. This year’s patch features a gray fox. If you would like to become a sustaining member, please send a $20 check made payable to the PTA to PO Box 708 Hummelstown PA 17036 and I will get a patch out to you. There are only 125 of these patches in existence so don’t delay!

Can deer see orange? In short, no. Red, orange, or green all look the same to deer.

A deer’s retina has a higher number of rods than cones. Rods help to see in dim light and cones help to see in bright light and color.

Deer also have a membrane called the “tapetum lucidum,” which reflects light back through the retina, improving their vision in low-light conditions.

Unlike us, deer lack a UV filter. Deer see better in low-light conditions and can distinguish some colors, such as red from blue, but they are essentially red-green color blind and rely on their perception of only two colors- yellow and blue. So If you want to be invisible to deer, don’t wear blue or yellow.

The high density of rods also allows deer to key in on movement, making them great motion detectors. Paired with other keen senses of smell and hearing, deer are experts at detecting and escaping predators… or hunters!

Pennsylvania’s statewide regular fi****ms season begins Saturday, Nov. 26.

The Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus) is the tree that was attacked by the Spotted Lantern Fly over the last 5-6 years. On the trail, they are easy to pick out because they are usually black (secretions from the bug). Now the trees are dying. This is in addition to all of the dead Ash that was killed by the Ash Borer. This is what they look like as they die from the inside out. We are removing them as quickly as possible.
