🐧 Snow Hill Island & Emperor Penguins aboard the Ortelius ❄️

We’ve all seen the famous Emperor Penguins in the documentary March of the Penguins, but did you know that 99% of Antarctic expedition cruises don’t offer the chance to see them? The Ortelius, however, provides a rare opportunity to visit their Snow Hill Island colony in the Weddell Sea.

🌍 With its helicopter capability and ice-strengthened hull, the Ortelius can navigate challenging conditions, allowing landings where most ships can’t. This means you’ll get closer to the iconic emperor penguins, witnessing chicks and adults in their natural habitat.

🚁 On a recent trip, around 20 emperor penguins even visited the vessel at night, creating a unique connection with nature. This experience is available exclusively on the Remote Weddell Sea Explorer expedition aboard the Ortelius.

🌍 Sustainability Meets Polar Exploration ❄️

We are so excited to share some big news: one of our expedition ships zodiacs — the Magellan Explorer - is now using E-fuel, made from green hydrogen and recycled CO₂! 🌬️♻️

This eco-friendly synthetic fuel is produced using green hydrogen and recycled CO₂, reducing the environmental impact of polar exploration while maintaining unforgettable experiences in the Arctic and Antarctic. 🌱✨

Here’s why we’re thrilled about this step forward:

🚢 E-fuel helps us reduce the carbon footprint of polar cruises
🌬️ Powered by wind energy, it aligns perfectly with our commitment to greener travel
🧊 Cruise the most beautiful, unspoiled regions of the world with less environmental impact

At Polartours, we’re committed to offering sustainable and unforgettable expeditions. And with innovations like E-fuel, the future of travel in the polar regions is looking greener than ever. 🌍💚

Expedition to the True Heart of Antarctica 🏔️

When it comes to exploring Antarctica, it’s not just about cruising—it’s about learning and experiencing the raw beauty of the world’s most remote continent. 🌍

On our Quest for the Antarctic Circle expedition, our guests don't just sail—they explore! 🛳️

While wind, sea, and ice conditions dictate our exact route, the real adventure happens when we step ashore. During our Zodiac landings, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Discover historical sites 🏛️
Our days are spent Zodiac cruising through vast, icy waters filled with giant icebergs, whales, and seals. 🐋❄️

But the experience doesn't end there. Our Expedition Teams are dedicated to making each journey unforgettable, offering lectures on everything from Antarctic wildlife to glacierology, so you can gain a deep understanding of the place you're visiting.

Are you ready to discover the true heart of Antarctica? 🌍

Did you know there are 17 penguin species on the planet today? But only 8 species make their home in the icy wonderland of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands! 🐧🌍

Meet the locals:
Chinstraps, Emperors, Adélie’s, Gentoos, Kings, Magellanics, Rockhoppers, Macaronis

🗓️ Breeding Season:
Penguins arrive at their breeding colonies in early October—males arrive first (as always!) 🦵. By early November, the colonies are packed with penguin families. The pairing process takes between 1-12 days, and once they do, 1-3 eggs are laid per pair. The magic begins as incubation lasts between 35-40 days.

⏳ By December to February, chicks hatch as the snow melts, revealing rocks for these little ones to take their first steps on!

Isn’t nature just adorable? 😍
