A lovely soggy walk - another happy day out at Coniston Coppermines, The Lakes 📍

Have wanted to see the Coppermines for a while. I didn’t quite imagine it would look like this (☔️) but still we trooped on and you know what, it was well worth it. Because really what else do you do on a rainy day in the Lakes with kids? They don’t care, in fact - they were soaked by jumping in every puddle 2 minutes in. So we carried on up to the old Coppermines.

We joined the walk at the Sun Inn in Coniston. There is paid parking just around the corner in the Old Station car park, so really easy. From there, you just follow the waterfalls up. It’s an easy walk for all ages really. Lots to scramble on and the waterfalls are brilliant to see. Next time we’ll make sure we dip.

After an upward first part of the walk, it’s pretty level across to the Coppermines in a gorgeous valley. Again, there would be lots of places to dip on a less rainy day or if you don’t mind braving it.

The Coppermines themselves are great fun. There are still industrial remains, crumbling building walls and lots to climb on.

From here you can carry on further up to Old Man and various other walks but for us and due to the rain, this was the perfect trip length. The perfect activity to get some fresh air and a run about.

Will we go back. Definitely. Will we pack better walking gear. Probably not 🫠

I can’t quite believe how fast that time has gone and how much in life has changed. Still feeling very lucky to be able to call Pheasant Lodge home.

Take a look at how it all began…those curtains 🫠

The most special day this Summer visiting Piel Island. If you’re in Cumbria, make sure you take the short ferry ride over because it’s magical ✨

3 years this month since we bought Pheasant Lodge and started making it into our lovely holiday home.

We’ve been so lucky to have so many happy days here and also had so many great guests.

Will never get tired of these big airy rooms and that light through the windows.

If you fancy staying in a home from home, do get in touch. We’d love to have you. Hannah x

So the dates are out - are you heading to Cartmel Races next year? Cartmel Racecourse

We’ve done it so many times now and every time it’s been different. Sometimes dressed up, for birthdays, a day date, with the kids, in wellies, in sun dresses but every time the best day out.

A couple of nights are already booked up at Pheasant Lodge by those clever early birds but message me if you’d like to secure your weekend at the races.

Pheasant Lodge is a spacious ground floor apartment which sleeps 6. Off street parking and the most beautiful garden views, just outside Cartmel.

Wed 28th May - no availability

Things I’ll be doing again and AGAIN this summer holidays in the Lake District…

Fell Foot - it’s our lazy day activity really, as it’s so close to the house and a huge array of watersports to get involved in.

Wray Castle is part of the National Trust Lake District and always host some fun family activities. It’s great to do a boat trip across Windermere to get there and see the sites along the way.

Holker Hall & Gardens has the most gorgeous grounds, to wander or run around with small kids. They also put on some great holiday days out, as well as weekend markets.

We love the circular route at Tarn Hows. We may take a longer loop this year but the short route is perfect with a pram and the views are awesome the whole way around.

Cartmel Racecourse will have a few events left over the summer holidays and we’ll make sure to get to one or two of them. It’s a great day out, for food, drinks and for a bet - right in the centre of Cartmel.

We stomped a few routes in the Langdale Valley last year and were blown away. It’s absolutely breathtaking and we found some fun waterfalls to splash in. Finish at Chesters by the River.

We can’t help but head back to Coniston. Again, it’s not too far from us and quieter than a lot of the Lakes, especially on the East side. Some farmers open their fields, so you can park there in the summer holidays. We’ll take our inflatable kayak as it’s so peaceful.

Grizedale Forest - Forestry England has so many walks we’re yet to do, plus bike tracks if that’s of interest.

Food glorious food. You’re spoilt for choice in Cumbria, known for its brilliant gastro pubs, lakeside cafes, cosey pubs, breweries and cocktail bars.

Grasmere sports. A brilliant local event with music, activities, stalls and of course inspiring athletes. Anyone can take part!

Let me know your fave things to do in summer - would love to hear 👇

9 Family Friendly walks for your Easter Break in the Lake District:

⭐️ Tarn Hows - accesible path all the way around. An easy walk for all and great views. You’re not allowed in the water though due to the leeches!

⭐️ Hampsfell. An steady climb across grassy fields and some fun rocks to climb on. Views of Cartmel and the sea, plus Pheasant Lodge if you look hard enough! Climb up the Hampsfell Hospice at the top, which was built in 1846 to provide shelter for travellers.

⭐️ Windermere Lake at Wray Castle. Another flat and accessible walk. Catch the boat across from Ambleside or Lake Side for views across the Lake. Gorge picnic spot.

⭐️ Grange over Sands Promenade. A shortish walk but lovely for a stop off in Grange after. Pick up some goods from or grab some Fish and Chips. Lots of great little cafes and a new play area along the front. Also I like having a spy on to see how it’s coming along.

⭐️ Rydal water and Caves. A great circular route where you get to play on the big stepping stones in the cave too. Rydal water is beautiful and the shallowest Lake in the Lake District.

⭐️ Blea Tarn. The car park is located right next to the tarn, so even if you just want to stop for a picnic with great views, it’s easy. The walk is paved some of the way too so ok-ish for prams.

⭐️ Gummers How. Incredible views over Lake Windermere on a clear (or even foggy!) day. A little bit steep on the way up but it doesn’t last too long before you’re at the top.

⭐️ Hoad Monument. Gorgeous views across the sea and the South Lakes plus you can pop into Ulverston before for supplies. Great play park at the bottom and cafe.

⭐️ High Dam. Parking at the bottom and then a fairly steep walk up but still should be doable for little legs and fun forests to walk through on the way up. Really beautiful on a sunny day.

We have some availability for the second week of the Easter holidays. Message me if you’d like more details.
