Specialization in big pikes, but also fishing for perch, zander, grayling, trout and salmon.

We had a successful fishing day last weekend with . Got this amazing archipelago perch of 43cm / 1040g.🤩 This one was hunting next to a grassy edge inside a small, deeper bay. Pike fishing was also surprisingly good, considering the fishing pressure on the area. Especially the few biggest pikes were in extremely good condition and healthy looking. 🐷 Season continues!

When you drive around the archipelago for two days and finally catch the biggest fish of the trip from the cottage shore.😂😂 (Pike was actually not the target, but funny still..) Two weeks ago I had a fishing trip to Vaasa archipelago on the west coast of Finland with some friends. We were all first time there, and I have to say that the waters are amazing. Superb fish amounts compared to South Coast, clear waters and a sea that looks and feels much healthier in every way. We were targeting for big perch, trying to find them from shallow waters. Didn't find +40cm fish yet, but hundreds of fish between 25-37cm. Also, we got around 140 pikes, while not even trying to catch them. 😄 Learned much about the spots, so I'm sure we will find big perch there in the future. Definitely a place to return to.💪

Couple of photos from a trout fishing trip to northern Norway in August. Once again, it was amazing to spend a week in complete wilderness. This was probably the most physically demanding fishing trip in my life, as the route plan was quite ambitious and we hiked +100km, part of which in extremely difficult terrain. We visited two new rivers. First one was a disappointment as the water levels were extremely low. However, rains during the week helped and the second river had improving water levels. In the river, the trouts were very tricky, accepting only natural nymphs with a free float. Dry fly fishing and streamer fishing was dead. However, as a bonus we had one super productive day at a big lake, where we got a lot of fish between 40-58cm with spinning gear. I also lost a big trout that took the lure right at my feet, after a short but intense fight. Biggest fish of the trip were 59cm and 58cm in the photos. Very thankful for this trip, and as I always say, can't wait for next summer.🤩

Had a super day at a lake!🤩💥 Biggest pikes 119 and 115 cm. Bigger one weighing 11,2kg. Ah, summer fishing!

Exploring a new lake with Ville from . Based on research, we were hoping to find a good pike and/or perch lake, instead it was a pikeperch lake. 😂 Typical. All zanders were +70cm but very slim and clearly around their maximum size for that lake, so no need to return there... However, it's always a thrill to explore new waters and Lapland is full of them. Also, the scenery and sunset was absolutely amazing!🌅

Midsummerpike, biggest of the year so far! It's a lot of work to find the fish from a big shallow lake, but the rewards can be good. 😊

Lapland..😍 Land of the midnight sun! The summer season has begun.

Lapland memories from last month! Had a great fishing trip with and . Sublime autumn landscapes, and a bunch of target fish caught.🍁😎🎣 Hosted by the amazing as always.

Boom!💥 Summer is over, and it was a good one! Possibly the best catch was this zander - 9,2kg/95cm.😱 I had only one day to go lake fishing in the South during the whole summer, but it paid off. We went to explore a new lake with my friend Antti. When arriving at the target area, this was the first fish I found with , and Antti caught it with his first or second cast of the day.😂 (This is NOT what usually happens.)
After that, we found and caught many other zanders between 83-70cm. Definitely a day I wont't forget soon!

Throwback to a great pike fishing session on July's Lapland trip. Got these three meterpikes during the first hour of fishing, then lost a couple more during the next hour. After that the big ones disappeared but we got a couple of high 90's, topfive of the evening totalling 510cm. It's a great feeling to be in the right place at the right time! All the fish took 40cm in color uv brown trout.

Angry 110cm river pike from wednesday, going back to it's element. What a great week this was, more pics to follow.
It was the last fishing week for this summer, can't wait for the next Lapland trip in September!🍂🎣

Great zanderfishing in Lapland yesterday. Top5 all +70cm and bunch of nice pikes as extra.

My new Lapland record, 11,5kg / 119cm. As my expression tells, I'm increadibly happy for this fish, and for the whole week. Four fishing days and three +112cm pikes caught on three different lakes is better than I hoped for.
Crossing the 10kg mark has not been easy for me in Lapland. In fact, after my last 10kg pike (which was on the Southern Coast of Finland), I have caught pikes weighing 9,9kg / 9,8kg / 9,7kg / 9,6kg / 9,5kg etc. Close but not quite. Meanwhile, I have also guided four +10kg fish for guests, friends and customers in Lapland. As the first personal +10kg in a while, this fish feels extremely good.
I got the fish on Friday, while testing a new lake. It seemed that the lake had a huge amount of small baitfish, and lots of smaller pikes as well. I got around 10 pikes in the afternoon, but all of them were around 2kg. Didn't even see any bigger fish in until I found this one. Typical size distribution in many Lapland lakes - bunch of smaller pikes, practically no medium size pikes, and a few really big ones.

Boom! Great start for this summer's fishing in Lapland on Monday! This gator took right under the boat in shallow water, with just 2 meters of line out. Epic fight!
This year's fishing season in Lapland will be shorter, as I started a new job as a data consultant last winter. I will be in Lapland for the next couple of weeks. There is still a day or two available for guiding. After that, I will be back in Lapland on the second week of September, and guiding in Southern Finland continues on weekends.

In September, I had and , a couple of experienced pike fishermen as guests in Lapland. We fished a couple of different lakes in beautiful autumn colors.🍂🍁 On both days and lakes, we got lots of big fish, after finding the right spots and colors. On first lake we reached top five somewhere close to five meters, and on second day the five meter mark was crushed with a result of 524cm. What a pike fishing weekend!

This year's fishing season in Lapland is over for me, and I moved to Helsinki area for the rest of the year. Currently there is already a lot of snow in Lapland, but one week ago there was still one sunny and relatively warm day. As expected, that was a good fishing day and I got a bunch of nice fish from a new lake. This 108cm pike was the biggest. In autumn lake/river fishing, usually the sunny days are the best for pike fishing, especially when fishing deep holes.

competition done! We had a strong start, filling the card fast. However we didn't manage to improve our result at all after the first three hours, despite giving our best efforts. I must admit that we were disappointed in our result, as it was not even close to the potential/previous results in that lake. But I am proud of our team for fishing two days in the continuous snow/sulsh storm in +1c temperature and strong winds. Same goes for all the other teams in Lapland! Also, it doesn't change the fact that the fish we caught were super beautiful, strong and in great condition. In the pics few of our biggest. Our top5 was 484cm, enough to reach divided 28th place. Kudos to all teams, regardless of the ranking or end result, and thanks for the organizers ! 🤗

This is what I call a fat zander. 😀 In some of the spots in Lapland, the zanders don't reproduce naturally, numbers are quite low and so there is not much competition for food. So the zanders are the shape of american footballs. 🏈

The video of the big perch trip I made with is finally out!🎣 Go check it at youtube.com/vapaallajalalla.

BOOM! 💪 Amazing river pike we caught a few weeks ago together with my friend Mika Värtö. It was a challenging evening, we were casting to many big pikes without any reaction. Then I noticed this fish in , lying on the bottom, under a thick school of baitfish. It didn't look very big first. Mika made a precise cast with hybridworm, and to our surprise this one was actually active and took the bait on the first cast. 😂 He said right away that this is big, and so it was! Measurements 117cm and 11,2kg. This remained the only fish of the evening. 😁

Had a good fishing day last week with top five 506cm. Pikes didn't fetch the lures actively, but when the lure was presented slowly on their nose, result was an angry take.
30/08/2021
Really strong and wide backed 110cm pike, caught a few weeks ago. Gave the hardest fight of the year so far.
26/08/2021
Went looking for pikes yesterday, found nice zanders instead. Biggest ones 82 and 75 cm, and many fish between 60-70cm. No question about the lure of the day. 😁
25/08/2021
"GoPro, take a photo" This 117cm beauty was one of the biggest fish of the season (so far). Took red&black. The fishing just keeps getting better ane better as the waters are cooling down.

Pike fishing during the past weeks has been amazing. Haven't had a lot of time to post on Insta, but here is one for starters. This gator hit one of my absolute favorite lures for big pikes, in 32cm size, yellow&green color.

Earlier this summer, I invited Oskari to Lapland. He's the guy behind the Youtube channel Vapaalla jalalla, and IG . Our goal was to fish for perch a few days. It was a fun trip and the fishing was successful, on the first day we caught a lot of numbers and on the second day we got some big ones. If you don't already follow Vapaalla Jalalla on Youtube and IG, I recommend it, great content. Also check the perch videos, when they come out later this year. Oskari also took nice pics on the trip, more to come later.

Back in June, I was testing a new lake with my friend Antti. It was a crazy rain all day, but pikes were feeding like crazy too. So no problem. 😁 We got 55-60 pikes. Mostly small ones, but then Antti got a really heavy take. Soon this really chunky was in the boat.💪 The second trip to this lake was even more successful, more on that later.
08/08/2021
Finally a better size zander! In most zander lakes of Lapland, the amount of 40-60cm fish is crazy, and some lakes also hold +60cm fish in quite good numbers. However, it seems that big ones are really scarse compared to Southern Finland. Maybe because of the clear waters and short summers? Afterall, this is the most northern region in the world to fish for zander. So I was super happy when yesterday I found a lake where the average size of fish was way better, and which feels really good for chasing the big ones. 🐷
05/08/2021
In June I was focusing my own fishing at perch and pike in small shallow lakes. Perch fishing was a success, pike fishing results from small lakes were mixed. Only once I visited a big river to chase big pikes. Should have done it more perhaps.😁 Here is one of the several big fish of that evening. This one bit FKS37, a bait made by my friend .fishing. Now, after a few weeks' pause, the fishing in Lapland continues. In my opinion, the best season for big pikes in Lapland is September, can't wait for the waters to cool down. In case you want to chase for these beasts as well, now is a great time to book a trip.

Nothing compares with fishing in Lapland
I founded MSFA in the beginning of 2020 on a few simple notions.
Despite of travelling and fishing almost on all continents of the world, personally my most profound travel and fishing experiences have been in Lapland during the summer. Seeing the Midnight Sun has been time and again a powerful, even a spiritual, experience - yet majority of the people living south from the Nordics haven’t experienced it or even heard about it. I am hugely excited to make this same experience possible for fishermen around the world.
Furthermore, the pike and perch fishing in Finnish Lapland is world class. Anyone who has seen the huge pikes caught in the Youtube production ‘Fly vs Jerk’ can attest to that. Despite of the growing demand, Finnish Lapland did not have professional fishing guides operating with modern boats and fishing methods.
But these are just secondary reasons. Ultimately it all comes down to being able to spend the summers in Lapland, doing what I love most - fishing and exploring the thousands of lakes and rivers in the wild nature.
