There is no comprehensive and easy way for visitors and even locals to discover and book the plethora of experiences to be had in and around Johannesburg. So many people who passionately run amazing experiences, events and activities are not getting awareness to what they offer. This disparity and the love of sharing all this region has to offer inspired the online platform, Johannesburg Pilgriimer. Joburg Pilgriimer is a comprehensive online platform to market everything available for locals and visitors to do and experience in and around Joburg.

This was born out of the desire to have a collective initiative for all things Joburg. This is a platform for all things Joburg and surrounding Gauteng. To simplify the way locals and visitors are to find the plethora of unique experiences to be had when living in or visiting the region. Everyone has become used to knowing and understanding their environment and their world through their smartscreen devices. If something is not on the digital map, people do not know it. An experience or a brand becomes stronger when it is media represented.
The platform esteems the citizen, and gives them the power to choose what to buy, where to go, what to do, in all diversities and uniqueness, considering the position and significance of the option against the entire landscape as a whole. Only good places will be listed; they don’t have to be expensive, but they have to be good. Therefore we audit our listings yearly in order to be sure that the many browsers receive good services from our platform.
Before our brands, it is first a platform to give the citizen and also ourselves an idea of our environment, the image of the city, making it easier to know where to go, from having a handle on the city design / city construct. This is to add value more to the pedestrian, being it already hard to navigate a dangerous city while trying to avoid a street thief, now even the good places and safe environments can be more accessible without having to go through a treacherous path. Getting an idea of our city, the businesses in the landscape, schools, museums and galleries, malls and restaurants, and the entire design as a whole, will make it easier for us to know how to improve the area, what additions to install, and what structure to construct next.
The new student at the university who comes from a province outside Gauteng will no longer have to become lonely in their dorm, not knowing what could be out there anymore.
The site will soon be translated into an app, and people will be able to navigate the city wherever there is WiFi, and make informative choices for offers available.
Joburg Pilgriimer started as Overberg Experiences and was only listing tourist attractions in Cape Town such as whale watching and things like this. However we have now designed a new platform based on a City Planning concept called ‘Image of the City’ by Kevin Lynch, which categorises elements of the city into understandable categories. We make it cost effective and build brands because we focus on the pilgrimer, the citizen. There are many African Americans emigrating or just visiting South Africa. This navigation is much more helpful for them too.
In lieu of the opportunity and the chance to have the city construct in the palm of our hands, let us together make the city accessible and understandable to both the visitor, to ourselves, and also the local citizens alike!
