On this date in 1817, Mississippi became the 20th state in the United States, and the mighty Mississippi River has been so important in the history and economics of the U.S.

Before signing The 13th Amendment, enslaved persons were accounted for 55% of the state population, and The Amendment was not ratified by Mississippi until 2013 (!) because the paperwork was never sent to the U.S. Archivist to be made official.

Today, Mississippi is home to 3 million people and ranks highest of all the states in the percentage of African Americans.

Also, The University of Mississippi is home to the Ma*****na Research Project, the only federally-funded center devoted to growing cannabis and investigating the plant's medical effects.

Tanzania is one of the countries which each traveler should have on their wishlist. Countless beaches are reputed to be some of the most beautiful in the world, and national park Serengeti, one of the world's oldest ecosystems, has hardly changed in a million years and has flora and fauna that are not found in any other parts of the world.

Mount Kilimanjaro, in addition to being the highest mountain in Africa, is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
Tanzania has 162 different tribes, each with its own unique character and culture.

British rule ended on December 9th of 1961, with Julius Nyerere becoming the first prime minister. Tanzanian Independence Day is celebrated with a presidential address, a military parade, and performances by music groups at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Uzbekistan is one of the only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, another one being Liechtenstein.
It is known for the historic city and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Samarkand being a crossroad and melting pot of the world’s cultures, since 1500 BCE.
Alexander the Great captured it in 329 BCE, later on, during the 7th and 8th centuries, Arabs conquered Uzbekistan and converted its population to Islam. During the 13th and 14th centuries, Uzbekistan was conquered by Genghis Khan and was incorporated into the Mongol empire, later on, it was a part of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, before gaining independence in 1991.

On this date in 1992, Uzbekistan adopted its constitution, and, even though it's been almost three decades since Uzbekistan declared independence from the U.S.S.R., the nation is only on its second president. He, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has already ended some of the bad policies from his predecessor like cotton slavery and exit visas.

The second-largest Italian city celebrates its day together with a Feast of its patron saint, Saint Ambrose. He was Milan's bishop and governor, teacher, lawyer, one of the founders of the Church, and one of the most important ecclesiastical figures of the 4th century.
The Feast takes place in the whole region and marks the beginning of many of Milan fairs.

The fair takes the form of a street market arranged around the Saint's Basilica, offering everything from antique stalls and buskers to roast chestnuts and candy floss.

The fair provides an excellent opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and is particularly enjoyed by children.

The Saint's day also coincides with the opening of the season of the world-famous Milan La Scala Opera.

Finland was a part of Sweden for almost a thousand years, until 1809, when it became an autonomous anex of Russia.
This small country has managed to keep its language, culture and traditions during its history.
On this day in 1927, at the near end of WWI, it has declared its independency.

Considering this is the time of the polar night and temperatures are a couple of degrees below zero, Finland families gather in their homes and, with a couple of bottles of beer, watch the Presidential gala evening.

But, those are not the reasons not to visit this beautiful nordic country, considering its nature's art work, such as Aurora Borealis, its forrest area, which is larger than The United Kingdom or Italy, and its more that 180 thousands of lakes.

Fun fact: Finnish people have the most saunas per capita in the world and their language is one of the most complex languages in the world!
I challenge you to try it: In Ginnish, the Independence Day is called Itsenäisyyspäivä!
