If the beach isn't your first and only reason for coming to Mexico, you can look into food tours. Most are organized to be multiple hours long and give you plenty of insight into the local cuisine. If you're visiting Playa del Carmen, Tulum, or Merida, Eating With Carmen is one company you might consider booking with.

Although I am unsure if these gorgeous lights were hung in honor of Christmas, they are also located in Morelia, the capital of its state and a perfectly viable vacation destination over more traditionally accepted Mexican vacation destinations. On a side note, it's only 50 minutes away from Celaya.

There are a few reasons we haven't discussed Manzanillo yet. First, it is a somewhat large city. For comparison, you can think of Barrie, Ontario or Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Secondary, unlike many of the places we have discussed, although tourism is important, as you can see from this picture, it is also a port and a very busy one at that, as well as home to the Pacific Naval Force.,

It's Foodie Friday here at Mexico Is More and this tasty treat is called a tlayuda and is traditional Oaxacan cuisine. It starts with a large, thin, crunchy, either partially fried or toasted tortilla about the size of a dinner plate covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento (unrefined pork lard), lettuce or cabbage, avocado, meat (usually shredded chicken, beef tenderloin or pork), Oaxaca cheese, and salsa. There are, of course, variations and outside of Oaxaca, you're more likely to see tlayudas in Mexico City, Puebla and Guadalajara.

An amazing adventure awaits

In 1998, I first set foot in Mexico as an EFL teacher. I didn’t actually travel that much when I was there but I met a lot of people and tried to have experiences. Despite issues with the heat and a limited palate, the aforementioned people made me love the country. I keep in touch with them to this day. So, when I hear stories in the media about how dangerous Mexico is, it breaks my heart because it doesn’t have to be. A lot of your safety depends on you. By the third of my five years in Mexico, people were stopping me downtown and asking for directions. I was shocked and, I’m sure, mangled the Spanish but I’ve come to realize it had more to do with how I carried myself. I want people who choose to go to Mexico to explore as much of the country as possible and to feel safe and secure in doing so. That’s why I started the company.
