Happy Saturday and March 1st, travel friends! It's after 7pm and I'm in my office as I have a few clients traveling home today and there's been several flight delays. I wanted to take a moment to elaborate on my post from yesterday. But before we dive in, let me clarify—I am not an insurance agent.

Over the weekend, the Northeast got slammed with a winter storm. I live in a rural area and the closest major airport is just under 2.5 hours away. That distance can make winter travel tricky. While the weather at the airport wasn’t too bad and my flight was able to take off, I couldn’t get there safely. (Which is a great example of why I always recommend flying in a day or two before your cruise!) The worst of the storm was between me and the airport, and the interstates were dangerous. It simply wasn’t a risk I was willing to take—so I had to cancel my trip.

And that brings me to the importance of travel insurance—especially Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage.

Had my flight been significantly delayed or canceled, my travel insurance would have kicked in. But because that didn't happen, my insurance won't cover me. And here’s the kicker—most standard travel insurance policies don’t cover situations where you can’t physically get to the airport. (Which, if you ask me, is pretty ridiculous.) But if I had CFAR coverage, I would be getting most of my money back. CFAR policies typically reimburse around 75%, which isn’t perfect, but it’s a lot better than losing everything. (Some CFAR policies reimburse 100%, but it is more costly.) CFAR policies are more of an investment for obvious reasons, but its absolutely worth considering.

As your travel advisor, I’m here to give you the best advice possible. Learn from my experience—travel insurance matters!

Well, I am not on my way to Port Canaveral as I should be. Unfortunately, the winter storm in the northeast impacted my plans. This is a stark reminder:

1. Travel insurance is SO important. Cancel for any reason is even better.

2. Plan to add a day or two pre-cruise and explore the city you're embarking from because issues HAPPEN and you don't want to miss the ship!

> This is something I preach to my clients and strongly recommend. Most take my advice, but unfortunately I did not have the option of taking my own advice this trip. So, I took the risk of flying out the morning of my sail date, and I paying for it now.

I'm disappointed I'm missing out cruising a new-to-me cruise line and missing time with my team, who I don't get to see nearly as often as I wish. I definitely have FOMO, but things happen out of our control and we just have to roll with it. I guess I just have to plan another trip! 😉

TGIF! This week has been full-speed —consulting with new & returning clients, planning incredible trips, taking care of my current guests, and juggling some unexpected home issues that needed my immediate attention. Everything’s okay now, but it did set me back a bit, which pains me. But, I guess that’s the reality of being a solo business owner and a homeowner! I’m incredibly grateful for clients who understand and appreciate my transparency when life throws a curveball.

Now, it’s time to close the office door and start packing—because my cruise sets sail on Sunday! I’ll still be working next week, just with a much better view (nothing beats an ocean breeze!). And of course, I’m bringing y’all along for the ride! This will be my first time experiencing MSC Cruises, and we’re going to explore it together. Stay tuned for all the details, videos, and behind-the-scenes moments! 🚢
