【On a hot day, let’s go to the river to swim!】
There are very beautiful rivers in Totsukawa and the water is very chill.
It’s perfect spot for a hot day.
Staying just for a day is not enough. Let’s have nice chilling time with us!
【🍶Sake Rice Planting experience🌾】
Sunday, we planted Sake Rice and also we learnt the traditional culture of “Yui” (結) that people had. Yui involves a system of collaborative work in small settlements and autonomous units. (wiki)
So before people start using machine, people in the settlements helping each other to plant rice by hand, like this weekend we will plant my rice field and 2 days later we will plant Sato-san’s field and then Tanaka-san, like that but once machine got introduced it’s more efficient so no more they need other neighbors’ help.
It’s really nice to know what we had as a culture and I’d love to keep having it as a culture.
Why don’t you join this beautiful culture? Next step is harvesting in late Sep or early Oct!
【Sake Planting Experience🌾】
Date : June 5th (sun)
Time : AM 9:00
Place : Tanize settlement, Totsukawa Village (near Tanize Suspension Bridge)
Let’s plant then have sake🍶 and BBQ🍗 afterwards.
If you are interested in, we will show you the village, too!
So please feel free to contact us.

【🍵Visiting Tea Farm!🍵】
Natsumi , the owner of the tea farm, manages one big tea farm located in Kawayu Onsen, Hongu, Wakayama. Her grandfather and his friends developed the tea farm when they were in 20’s and now Natsumi took over the farm.
First she took us to the farm and explained her a year of work to us. Lots of questions! and she answered those very kindly. It’s so excited to know how tea we drink is prepared.
Then she gave us a tea lecture! with lots of different kinds of teas she makes.
Sencha, Houjicha, Bancha. Now she is trying to make Wakocha (和紅茶), Japanese English tea.
I loved them so much and can’t wait to share the experience with you all.
One of the best founds was the pink scarf she wears and it was dyed with tea fruit!
If you’d like to have this tea experience, let me know and we’ll explore together!
Walk on Kumano Kodo and learn more about the culture of the Kumano area.
If you’d like to get Natsumi’s tea, please contact , it’s really tasty.

【One of the best way to enjoy nature】
I, Hanako , love science and experiment. Recently I started extracting essential oils from plants, like Japanese Cypress, Japanese Cedar, Shiso (macrophyll), and Kuromoji (Lindera umbellata). When I was searching about extracting oils, I also found out that I can use residual water for natural dye! So, I called Akane-san and decided to do our first experiment using Shiso and Kuromoji natural dye and it turned out beautiful soft colors!
We can show you how to enjoy nature in Totsukawa like this way, too!
Relaxing and chilling and getting a beautiful souvenir.
This time we experimented at , a newly opened cafe in Totsukawa, owned by Akane-san.
You can have tasty curry, sandwiches and desserts!

【🏞️ Dorokyo Gorge 🏞️】
From beautiful scenery to silence; enjoy a scenic river in a place so remote and unknown you can basically have it all to yourself.
Do you know what kanji are in Dorokyō’s name?
If you speak Japanese, you might think that the “doro” comes from “mud”, which is pronounced the same way, but in this case the Kanji for “doro” means “stillness”, and evokes the image of a gentle, quietly flowing river. Said river is the namesake of this great gorge, which was designated a Place of Scenic Beauty by the Japanese government.
If you come to the gorge by car from Totsukawa, you’ll end up in an area called Dorohacchō. The name comes from a Japanese expression “Kuchi hacchō te hacchō”, which means “both eloquent and skilled”.

Life in Deep Japan, Totsukawa Village
日本語は文章は下にあります↓↓↓
=========================
Hanako, Kiwako, and Ishin moved to Totsukawa Village, the largest village in Japan by size (larger than Tokyo 23 Wards) located in the south of Nara prefecture in October 2019. They made a sudden and a big decision, especially for Hanako and Kiwako. Before they moved to Totsukawa, they lived in Yokohama, the second largest city in Japan by population, and the most populous municipality of Japan. Totsukawa has a population of 3,200 people which is 1/1000 of Yokohama.
Japan Village Living is about their new life in Totsukawa village and its surrounding area with people living there and travelers visiting there. People in Totsukawa has kept the authentic Japanese lifestyle passed on generations which you won’t see in Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka. International travelers who have visited Totsukawa kept saying they saw “True Japan” or “Deep Japan” that they always wanted to see.
If you are interested in visiting Totsukawa, please let us know. We will be your personal guides and communicators for connecting you to the local community.
自給自足や自然と共に生きる生活、山を守るお仕事、素敵な笑顔と沢山の知恵を持っている方達で、「本当の日本がここにある」と外国人旅行客の皆さんも感じています。
