Atlanta
USA
Atlanta is a thriving, shining cultural jewel in the heart of the American South with passion and activism in its soul. The birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr was a major battleground state during the United States’ 2020 presidential election.

Kynance Cove, The Lizard Peninsula
Regarded as one of the best beaches in the world, Kynance Cove is straight out of a childhood fairytale. Mossy stacks rise from deep turquoise waters, the sand is astonishingly white, and magical serpentine rocks shimmer in the sunlight. This beach was a favourite of Lord Alfred Tennyson who would come to sit and watch the 'glorious grass-green monsters of waves' colliding against the craggy cliffs. When high tide cuts off the beach in the afternoon, retreat to the hillside National Trust café for tea and scones over a rosy sunset.

Fidden Bay
Isle of Mull, Inner Hebrides

Kayakkers visit Fidden Bay to paddle between the archipelago of skerries and small islets out towards the island of Iona. The beautiful west-facing beach though, is a good place to watch the sun set, or spot seals basking on the pink granite outcrops. The Fidden Farm campsite right by the beach is a great for families - children will spend their days exploring rock pools, building sandcastles and paddling in the sea.

Oldshoremore & Phollain
Kinlochbervie, Sutherland

This is one of the best places to swim in Scotland. Made up of two sandy bays in the north west of Sutherland there's a small rocky island in between them known as Eilean na h-Aiteig (meaning either 'isle of the shy girl' or 'juniper isle'). Peaceful glittering bays are framed by flashes of gorse in bloom - there are 200 species of flowering plant (including mountain avens not found on other Scottish machair) that grow here.

Gippsland Lakes
The Gippsland Lakes are an enormous network of beautiful inland lagoons, marches, and lakes which cover an area of over 230 square miles located between Ninety Mile Beach and the ocean. In this tranquil environment you will have an astonishing variety of beach activities to keep you occupied, including boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, wind-surfing, fishing, and sailing. The calm waters of the lagoons are perfect for children and the entire area is a popular summer vacation destination. Nature lovers will be able to view a wide variety of birds and other wildlife, including lagoon dolphins, and you can visit Rotamah Island by boat to see wallabies and kangaroos in their natural environment, while Raymond Island is home to a koala colony. When conditions are perfect you may be able to witness blue glowing waters at night caused by bioluminescent organisms.

Bend, Oregon
The Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful parts of the United States. To soak up all that nature but still get the perks of city living, head straight to Bend, Oregon (about three hours south of Portland). The town receives an annual average of 300 days of sunshine, giving visitors ample opportunities to go hiking through the Cascades or kayaking and fly fishing on the Deschutes River. Make sure you set aside some time to visit a brewery (or five) along the Bend Ale Trail.

Denver
The winter and spring seasons in the Rockies always attract ski buffs hoping to get in a few runs before the snow melts. And while we're fans of a ski-themed spring break, there are tons of reasons to visit Colorado aside from winter sports—particularly in and around Denver. Travelers can enjoy special programs at several of the city's institutions, including guided hikes at the Plains Conservation Center at Denver Botanic Gardens and exhibits at the Denver Art Museum. And of course, the city has an incredible restaurant scene worth exploring.

Samaná Bay, Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is by no means an under-the-radar spring break destination, but the country still manages to have a few hidden gems here and there. Case in point: Samaná Bay, located along the northeast coast. The clear waters on the Samaná peninsula are ideal for snorkeling and diving, but from January through March, the ocean belongs to the 1,500 to 2,000 humpback whales that birth and nurse their calves in the bay. Head there before the season ends to participate in some next-level whale watching expeditions led by conservationist Kim Beddall (she's been leading the informative tours since 1983). If you aren't able to catch a boat excursion, you can observe the whales from land at the Punta Balandra observatory, located about nine miles northeast of Santa Bárbara de Samaná.

Healdsburg, California
We named Healdsburg as one of the 21 places to visit in 2021, because it's one of the most alluring slices of California wine country. The charming hamlet is known for its world-class food and wine, and you can expect even more restaurants to pop up this spring. And can you think of a better place to social distance than a gorgeous vineyard?

Palm Beach, Florida
The 16-mile long island of Palm Beach has been one of America’s most indulgent hideaways since the Gilded Age, after Rockefeller crony Henry Flagler set up his winter home there. Despite its fancy reputation—Worth Avenue is one of the toniest shopping streets in the country—it remains far more relaxing and down-to-earth than some of Florida's larger cities, like Fort Lauderdale or Miami. (Bonus: It also draws in far fewer spring break crowds.)
