Did you know… Hawaii has over 125 beaches! Which ones are on your bucketlist?

Most Blogs tend to list around 36 popular beaches.. We have a lot of little secret beaches tucked away.

Most of them are beautiful, like this tiny beach/park right outside Waikiki going up Diamond Head.

These beaches exist but you must be willing to explore. There is nothing like feeling of exploration and being rewarded when you stumble upon a gem.

Exploring means you traveled deeper into local environment and looked beyond the surface. You earned it that beach, lapping waters and sunset.

Rent a car, drive and stop at a beach. Simple as that.

I’m often blogging at GRRRL TRAVELER, but over the pandemic I started Getaway Guide because I love my island and it’s a way to get me out with my dog.

One of the best sunsets on the island is easily located at the rock wall along Magic Island beach park, located on the edge of Waikiki and across Ala Moana shopping center.

Got shave ice?

We love all our shaved ice shops but if you ever see a shaved ice truck, that’s one of the original ways Hawaii folks used to buy their shave ice!

The second way is visit a mom and pop crack seed shop. Two of my favorite landmarks: Matsumotos (Haleiwa) and Waiola (very close to Waikiki & prices are more local). Hawaii shaved ice is different from snow cones because it’s not fine or fluffy but pebbly. It lasts longer in the Hawaiian heat.

Where are you each Saturday ?

Saturdays farmer’s market days are located at the edge of Kakaako and on Ward Avenue.

Local vendors come, pop up their tents to sell a variety of unique Hawaii-inspired treats, jams, produce and crafts! Bring the family and an empty stomach!

Dishes here aren’t always cheap, but you’ll find some unique treats with a fun flavorful twist!

When in Kakaako, see how many murals you can count!

They are everywhere and tucked around corners, on warehouse buildings etc. it’s become our mural art district.

Kakaako used to be an area of industrial warehouses; not pretty at all. Due to its real estate next to downtown and the beach parks it’s been growing condos and art for beautification.

The fine for harassing or touching a sea turtle in Hawaii runs $1,000 to $10,500. If you see someone touching a turtle please report them to authorities. Everyone has a responsibility to protect endangered marine life. 

These days tourists have been making the headlines by attempting to touch, ride, capture, harass and harm Hawaii's endangered species.

Everybody from state to tourists have got to be better about protecting the endangered species.

The Hawaiian green sea turtle needs to be protected from extinction. The ten foot rule needs to be increased and nesting/resting spots should be guarded.

Nature is not a circus nor should we treat and sell our endangered species as one.

This is Kualoa Ranch, one of the most beautiful film locations on Oahu where they filmed Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates, Hawaii Five O and more. I've only ever visited it when working with television crews and it is an amazing spot where you can do ATV rides.

It also holds occasional weekend rodeos that the local cowboy community participates in.
