That one time that I swam in a lagoon in Jamaica to watch microorganisms make the water glow at night!

Here’s a little history:
“The Luminous Lagoon stretches along the marshlands of Trelawny from the small community of Rock to the town of Falmouth. In the 18th century when sugar was king, Falmouth was one of Jamaica's most pivotal ports. Located at the eminent point where the Martha Brae River meets the Caribbean Sea, the lagoon housed a wharf where large vessels from England unloaded goods onto smaller ships to be delivered inland up the river. Once inland, these boats would reload with sugar, rum and other Jamaican exports and carry them back to the harbor. Years after the decline of the sugar trade, scientists discovered the lagoon's geographical location was important for another reason. It was the single best place to observe and study microorganisms called dinoflagellates, which thrive in the layers where salt and fresh water combine and glow the brightest in shallow, warm water.”

St. Lucia is BEAUTIFUL!😍 The water is beautiful. The people are beautiful. The food is phenomenal. There are also two mountainous volcanic plugs known as the Pitons. Several people hike to the top of these mountains. I am not one of them!😂

“The Pitons are two mountainous volcanic plugs, volcanic spires, located in Saint Lucia. Gros Piton is 798.25 m (2,618.9 ft) high, and Petit Piton is 743 m (2,438 ft) high; they are linked by the Piton Mitan ridge.”

On the way to the Pitons, I was able to see dolphins in their natural habitat. It was so graceful!❤️

I was also able to stand inside of a volcano!😱

“The Soufrier Volcano (Sulphur Springs) last errupted in the 1700's - over 200 years! It originated from a weak spot in the crust of a collapsed volcanic crater, and is considered to be a dormant volcano.”

I was able to take a mud bath at the Sulphur Springs which is mud made from the actual volcano. “The mud baths at Sulphur Springs attract people from all over the world because it detoxifies the body and helps heal sun burns, eczema, arthritis, sore joints, and more.” The volcanic water is HOT!🥵

At the end of the video, you can see where the volcano has split and St. Lucians have built their community and homes.
