Mie, our yoga teacher, and I, Jay (organizing) both have our roots in Tanzania. Alongside creating these yoga experiences, we’re committed to give back to the community of Jambiani, Zanzibar, where our retreats concludes. We support local plastic recycling programs with children as future leaders, and we partner with More Africa, a center for children with disabilities where Mie sponsors yoga classes. During your retreat, you can participate in workshops on plastic pollution and visit the More Africa center if you wish to gain experiences beyond the retreat.

We walked until dusk with our ranger and witnessed a herd of nearly 50 elephants slowly making their way, as if they were heading “home” after drinking at the dam. There was a unique feeling in the air this evening, as if something within each of us had quieted, connecting us to something larger. In any case, it left me particularly grateful that places like this exist on our planet.

It’s been a while since we spotlighted the stunning Cheetah. This cat boasts a beautiful gold coat marked with striking black spots and leads a solitary lifestyle.

Weighing a modest 60-70 kg, the cheetah may not be as imposing as a lion, but it stands tall at an average of 90 cm from ground to shoulder.

While it doesn’t cast the largest shadow among the big cats, the cheetah’s sleek physique is finely tuned for unmatched speed and agility, earning it the title of the fastest land mammal on Earth. 🐆💨

Why is it zebra and wildebeest are often seen together?

One of the reasons is that they actually team up for safety! Zebras have amazing eyesight to spot lurking lions, while wildebeest have a super sense of smell to find hidden waterholes.

This is Arusha National Park - home of Mount Meru - the second highest peak in Tanzania.

A small park nestled in lush, green landscapes on the fertile base of Mount Meru. 🏞️

A great park to experience walking, learning about the different plants and getting closer to the wildlife. 🌿🚶‍♂️

The park is home to lakes, a crater and picturesque view points. 🌄

Birders love this park and wildlife is plenty. Often underated because it doesn't feature large cats but it will connect you to nature in an unexpected way. 🧘

Discover the tranquil beauty of Mkomazi National Park, a highlight of our "Exploring Eastern Tanzania" itinerary. Lying between the picturesque Pare and Usambara Mountains, this park offers an enchanting landscape. Prior to visiting Mkomazi, you'll have the opportunity to hike in the Usambaras, further enriching your adventure.

Once inside the park, bush walks with an armed ranger and rhino tracking are highlights as well as trying to spot elusive gerenuks and kudus. With some luck, one can see the Big Five too!

A couple lions lazing around and finding some shade from the afternoon sun. One we found curiously perched slightly up a tree. Was it looking for more shade, getting a better view of something, or simply escaping some biting ants below..? Or maybe simply having some fun😊. We didn’t have time to get close and examine. But this is the world of safari; discovery, connection, excitement, and enjoyment!

A saddle-billed stork leading the way to a fresh water stream. For the stork it’s a chance to catch some fish, for the zebra, water to quench the midday heat of the Serengeti.

Elephant dung is made up of many plants and leaves, an amount and variety even a medicine man would use. Elephants only partially digest or “cook” their food, making the dung’s medicinal content much more bio-available.

Inhaling the smoke of the dry dung is a quick way to heal a headache, and limit other pains. Pictured is our walking guide Sembeta smoking some dry dung for one of our guests who happened to have a headache that day!

Burning dried elephant dung is also an effective mosquito repellent. The smoke has an earthy botanical smell, probably due to the rich plant material as well as its very low bacterial count.

It’s also an excellent fire starter. Sembeta is once again up to the trick.

Our beloved elephants showed up early next morning not from our campsite🧡.

TANZANIA - vi kan inte vänta med att gå ut med detta! Planering av ny resa på gång till Tanzania tillsammans med !
Det blir safari i vidsträckta Serengeti, vi kör längs Great Rift Valleys sluttningar till ett närmast överjordiskt landskap vid Lake Natron. Vi besöker masaj-by och kaffefarm och upplever naturen till fots.
Resan avslutas på Zanzibar med snorkling, dhow segling, delfiner och kryddturer. Detta och mycket annat...

The light filtering through the clouds as we were heading back through the Ngorongoro highlands was beautiful. Suddenly coming across this huge group of giraffes made it even more special💛🦒.

Reached Lake Natron last week with a happy group. Although we love the surreal desolate landscapes, was also nice to see it so green. Here the Maasai are taking their cattle further afield towards Ol Doinyo Lengai; their sacred “mountain of god”.
