Exploring Pushkar: Temples, Monsoon Magic & Stunning Views. India 🇮🇳 August 2024. We arrived in the sacred city of Pushkar, home to over 500 historic temples, including the world’s only temple devoted to the Hindu god Brahma. The vibrant streets and colorful markets were alive with the energy of a Krishna festival. As the afternoon unfolded, the monsoon rains poured down, transforming the streets into rivers. Thankfully, we found the perfect lakeside restaurant to enjoy dinner and watch the magic of the storm. Day 2 in the sacred city of Pushkar! We started our morning adventure by climbing over 500 steps to the breathtaking Savitri Devi Temple. Along the way, mischievous Langur monkeys kept us on our toes, and curious locals eagerly asked for selfies. The panoramic views of Pushkar and its serene lake from the hilltop temple were absolutely unforgettable! Venturing into the mysterious Thar desert from breathtaking Jaisalmer. India 🇮🇳 August 2024. Another epic day in the fort city of Jaisalmer in the Thar desert! After exploring the beautiful Haveli’s (historical/architectural mansions) we learned of traditional patchwork making. In the afternoon we walked to an epic viewpoint of the fort city from afar and afterwards enjoyed sunset and an evening meal on the rooftop with fun dressups! Must-See Spots in Delhi Unveiled! India 🇮🇳 August 2024. An epic day in Delhi! We started with the site of the 16th century Minaret known as Qutab Minar, followed by the Lotus 🪷 Temple, afterward the inspiration for the Taj Mahal, Humayans Tomb and finally the Parliament and Presidential Palace of India.Venturing into Old Delhi our first stop the Jama Masjid Mosque 🕌, built in the 17th Century by the same ruler who built the Taj Mahal. Afterwards we seemed out a well known Sikh Temple known as Guruwada Sis Ganj Sahib. It was inspiring to learn of the Sikh philosophy, their beliefs of equality and watching how they prepare food for the community in their temple kitchens. Exploring Mumbai: India's Most Populated City Highlights. India 🇮🇳 August 2024. After flying from Colombo we arrived into India’s most populated city, Mumbai. We hit the ground running on our first day visiting the Gateway to India & Taj Palace Hotel. We visited many flower and food markets, the world largest open air laundry at Dhobi Ghat, an ancient reservoir tank at Banganga Tank, Bird watching at the Hanging Gardens, the home of Mahatma Gandhi, and visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Train station at the Victoria Terminus Station. Guided by the excellent Ganesh @amazetoursindia In the evening we took a street food tour with Bala at @coloursexperiences the food was amazing but the most adventurous part was crossing the roads and dodging the traffic in the markets, it was definitely eye opening seeing this city that never sleeps in the evening, certainly more intense than during the day when people are working. Tranquil Bentota Sunsets and the Charming Capital of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 August 2024. The best sunset in Sri Lanka 🌅 felt like a farewell for our second last night in this amazing country. After a swim in the warm Indian Ocean 🌊 at Moragalla Beach near Bentota we relaxed on the beach watching the sky change colour with our new furry friend. Our last full day in Sri Lanka, travelling from Bentota to Colombo. First stopping at a temple will be a giant golden Buddha before heading to the capital of the country. We checked out independence square, a Buddhist temple, Hindu temple 🛕 and the Red Mosque 🕌. Secrets of Southern Sri Lanka: Galle Fort & Ahungalla Turtle Hatchery. Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 August 2024. Our first stop in the morning the Galle Fort, founded by the Portuguese in the 1500’s and expanded upon by the Dutch in the 1600’s and finally adopted by the British in the 1700’s. This UNESCO World Heritage site has been through many changes, however these days it hosts a charming and thriving tourist township which we loved exploring! We made our way to the Madu River to explore the famous mangrove islands and caves, visiting a Buddhist temple and a cinnamon island. Afterwards we made our way to Ahungalla Turtle Hatchery and conservation research centre 🐢. Here we checked out all the baby hatchling turtles being released each day along with sick and injured turtles (generally from human made causes like plastics, which is heartbreaking). Uncovering Yala National Park & Sri Lanka Stunning Southern Coast! Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 August 2024. Sri Lanka’s biggest and best (in terms of wildlife) National Park, Yala. Within moments of entering we were confronted by a large family group of Elephants 🐘. In the late afternoon sun we spotted crocodiles 🐊, deer 🦌, buffalo 🐃, wild boars 🐗 and countless bird species 🐦. Although the park is famous for its large leopard 🐆 population we didn’t see one, however we did see a Sloth Bear 🐻 which is much rarer (approx 20 in the park). The highlight came when leaving the park at sunset 🌅 a large Elephant group gave us an awesome farewell!Visiting the second largest blowhole in the world (Hummanaya) and the largest lighthouse in Asia at Dondra Head, the Southernmost point of Sri Lanka. We left at sunrise 🌅 for Mirissa Harbor. The goal was to see the largest animal that has ever existed, the Blue Whale 🐋. With a little over 2 hours on our boat 🛥️ there unfortunately weren’t any in sight. We did however see many Fin Whales and even a few calves, so not all was lost. Adventures around captivating Sigiriya, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 August 2024. Making our way to Sigiriya we stopped at local farm house where they taught us the traditional methods to make Sri Lankan Curry, which tasted absolutely phenomenal 🤤. Afterwards we took a rafting trip on a lake where our captains made us lotus 🪷 necklaces and hats and spotting Hornbills and local village people along the way! We returned via a farm bullock cart. We started early with a sunrise 🌄 hike to Pidurangala Rock to view the famous Lions Rock from a distance. We Visited Sri Lanka’s Best Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala from Negombo! Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 July 2024Our first 2 days in Sri Lanka. In Negombo, watching the Oruwa fishermen from Negombo beach and the Hamilton Dutch Canal. Ready for our 2 week adventure exploring Sri Lanka! Our first stop from Negombo was the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Which has been taking in injured, problem and orphaned elephants since 1975. We saw the Elephants bathing in the river and marching down the streets to return to the orphanage.
