Support for Senator Taylor’s efforts to Make Memphis Matter is growing with a major corporation investing in Memphis. The Greater Memphis Chamber announced this morning that Elon Musk plans to move his xAI super computer company to Memphis marking the largest new-to-market company investment in Memphis history.

Companies are noticing the state legislature’s Republican majority intends to help Memphis solve
its crime issues. When Senator Taylor campaigned for the state Senate, he promised reducing crime and increasing economic activity to go hand-in-hand.

“I am pleased to see my efforts to Make Memphis Matter are not in vain,” remarked Senator Taylor. “Elon Musk’s investment in our community has the potential to transform Memphis, and his willingness to move xAI here shows my narrative about getting tough on crime pays dividends.”

Senator Taylor has brought his senate colleagues from around the state to Memphis to meet with
business leaders, law enforcement, and community members to learn about how the legislature can help Memphis. “When my colleagues leave Memphis, they tell me that Memphis’ crime problem is more challenging than they realized but Memphis’ potential is greater than they realized,” said Senator Taylor.

Senator Taylor’s crime-fighting legislation passed in the 2024 session includes the District Attorney Transparency Act, blended sentencing, and numerous bail reform bills including removing “Ability to Pay” from consideration and prioritizing safety to the community. The Tennessee legislature also simplified the state’s franchise tax for businesses over the past two years saving Tennessee businesses $400 million annually.

“Entrepreneurs like Elon Musk see my colleagues and I are intent on getting Memphis’ crime to a manageable level,” mentioned Senator Taylor. “After all, Tennessee cannot be successful if its most famous city is not successful. I am pleased with Musk’s decision to invest in our community, and I intend to do all that I can to make xAI a success.”
