- HOME -
Driving home to Perth lockdown 😭 We've managed to avoid all the covid issues along the way until now. Lucky we are so use to living 30cm from eachother for the last few months.

A before and after pic - a little bit dirtier, a bit more sun kissed and a bit less organised in the car but overall we have so many amazing memories. We (or maybe just deb) now have a huge appreciation for personal space, flushing toilets, clean clothes, daily showers, and hot water from a tap!

*top pic is actually the day we left - in case steves scruffy face confused you...😂

Its been epic! But its time for a relax and a brainstorm for the next adventure!

⚠️Throwback to Day 4 ⚠️
74 days ago, which feels like a lifetime ago, we were just 4 fresh days into our trip and this happened. We had travelled through terrible weather, horrific road conditions and unfortunately Glenn and Leonies van hit a bad patch and flipped onto its side. Luckily no damage to the car, but the van was a write off. The boys managed to winch it back up on its wheels (thanks Runva Australia ) and they dragged it all the way into Alice Springs. They didnt give up from there, they left us for a few days, drove to QLD and bought a new one to finish the trip.

- EIGHTY MILE BEACH -
Extremely low tide meant we could spend the arvo walking the whole beach, collecting shells, following sea snail tracks and watching the sunset. Yummy burgers and chips made by the park staff warmed us up on our first experience of a freezing cold night!!
8° was a bit of a shock to the system after being up north!

- CAPE LEVEQUE -
Pure magic! Beach front camping at its best. We camped 3 nights at Pender Bay - Cape Leveque. Just over 200km north of Broome, beautiful red and orange cliff faces meet the ocean. We had 1 night of rain but still nice and warm up here, still soaking it up before we begin to head back south towards home and the dreaded winter 🥶😭

What's not to love about Broome - Cable Beach, coffees and plays at Town beach, Matsos brewery, Broome Speedway, swimming, icecreams and more relaxing in the sunshine!
Heading up to Cape Leveque today! 🌞❤

- KUNUNURRA-
We were lucky to stay with an amazing human here (grandad/dad) ❤ There is something so beautiful and special about the country up this way. While we were here we went out on dads boat for a relaxing cruise up the river, we went and explored some old aboriginal paintings, watched a gorgeous sunset from our own private cliff face, did a day trip out to Lake Argyle and swam in the freezing infinity pool, kids went for a ride in grandads fire engine, boys did some river fishing and we enjoyed living in a house with four walls and a real bed for a few nights! 🌞

- DARWIN -
This city went above and beyond our expectations. We love it up here! Four days definitely wasnt enough for us so we'll be back! Swimming everyday, croc parks, sunset markets, free water park, huge playgrounds, live music, good food, happy hour, and endless sunshine!! Only negative is the mozzies!
We also stopped into Adelaide River for a jumping croc cruise on the way back south. Fascinating but bloody frightening (for deb)

- LITCHFIELD NATIONAL PARK -
Four days of chasing waterfalls, swimming, no reception, bush walks, relaxing and soaking up the sun. We camped at Florence Falls campground as a base so we didnt have to pack up and move and explored the other amazing spots during the day. Kids had a ball playing with all the other camp kids every morning and night.

- MATARANKA-
We couldn't have squeezed more into 24hours if we tried! After a huge day previously, we decided to only drive a short way to Mataranka and relax and WOW I'm so glad we did! We swam in the hot springs and stayed at Little Roper Stockcamp which was non stop entertainment for the kids! They had some buffalo, pigs, chickens and cattle to feed, they had a huge hay stack playground, the owner took the kids sugar glider feeding at night and let them cuddle their snakes and lizards. There was a big communal table where the owner cooked delicious curry for dinner for us all and made fresh bread and billy tea for us in the morning!
We also went and watched Nathan Whippy Griggs perform his whip cracking show at the homestead which was so good!

-DALY WATERS -
What a bloody cracker of a place! Another tiny, quirky town that has so much to offer. We had a huge day of driving to get there because we'd heard it was worth a visit. We rolled into town at 5pm and it was literally overflowing with vans and trailers so we had to camp on the roadside! But we spent the night drinking at the pub with an awesome feed and live band. The next morning we checked out the junkyard museum, the buffalo and pig and couldnt leave without buying some Daly Waters merchandise. Will definitely drop in again if we pass by in the future - maybe just get there earlier!

MELLISH PARK -
Our favourite camp so far, right at the waters edge with the constant sound of flowing water and perfect weather. It was meant to be a one night stop but we loved it so we stayed for three. Kids made friends with two other familes, so we made adult friends too and shared a campfire, drinks, laughs and travel stories.
Kids floated down the river on tubes, swung on the rope swings and made cane toad jails out of rocks 😆

- LAWN HILL -
We did a day trip into Lawn Hill NP yesterday, explored the gorge in canoes and swam in the waterfalls 😍 We didnt get to walk into the other areas of the gorge because we ran out of time and little four year old legs wouldnt have held up for much longer, but it was a great day out

- CROYDON - KARUMBA -
From the east to the west of North Queensland! We stopped in Croydon for lunch and looked through the historical precinct with an old school, police station, jail and city hall. Such a fascinating little town. We then drove to Karumba for one night which is a little beach town with a gorgeous sunset and fresh seafood. We also stopped in at the Barra discovery centre.

- ROUTH CREEK -
A roadside stopover which turned out to be a little gem! Perfect weather, clear sky to watch the huge pink moon and the first opportunity to get the fishing lines wet - with no result.

- CAPE TRIBULATION -
Where the Daintree Rainforest meets the ocean. Such a beautiful place but we had terrible weather so it didnt quite look like the postcards. We drove the Bloomfield track to get there which was pretty sketchy (no caravans or trailers allowed because of the crazy terrain...duramax says nuh we'll be right😂) We stopped at Bloomfield Falls on the way, relaxed in the quiet, beachfront campgrounds of Cape Trib for 2 nights and visited the only doctor for miles because Layla got a terrible skin infection from a mozzie bite! 😔

- Moreton - Cooktown -
Spent a night at Moreton Telegraph Station with the cows, a night at Musgrave roadhouse then headed to Cooktown. Explored the historical sites of Capt. Cook, made teepees whenever there were big sticks, got a wheel alignment due to the cape, flooded our camper floor from the canvas accidentally folded in and just relaxed - in the wind and rain 😑

-CAPE YORK part 3 -
The last of the cape shots. We left Eliot Falls and started to head south. We squeezed in a couple of last 4wd tracks before we left the cape - more creeks, washouts and lots more mud.

- CAPE YORK, part 2 -
We camped for another 3 nights at Eliot falls, a beautiful spot with no one else around. Absolute heaven. This was our base to go 4wding and explore the fun parts of the Old Telegraph Track! We checked out Turtle Pond and Gunshot Creek (but didnt attempt the famous Gunshot challenge because we need to get home somehow...) and we crossed the deeper Cockatoo Creek and winched out the other side through the mud.

- CAPE YORK, part 1 -
We slowly made our way up north, stopping at roadside camps each night. We had to spend $130 on the car ferry to get across the Jardine river (a very short distance, but theres no other way) After 3 days on the road up, we pulled into Punsand Bay where we spent 3 nights, got to the Tip and did some 4wding on the Romaflats track - just the beginning of the rough tracks that had been barely touched for the start of the season.

Yes we are alive! Just back to civilisation after an epic cape york adventure. We have hours of footage, thousands of photos but while I have a minute before we head out of range again - this should sum up the cape. Rough and dirty! More pics to come!

-CAIRNS & JOSEPHINE FALLS-
Making our way back up north because we've just heard the cape is open!! 🙌 Spent a day sliding down the natural (and a bit sketchy) waterslide at Josephine Falls, then did the touristy stuff in Cairns on the skyrail, did some shopping at the Kuranda markets and explored the butterfly sanctuary. Heading towards 4wd country today!
