1.1 The single sleeping cabin aims to revolutionise train travel in Europe.
As Europe's railway revolution continues apace, its authorities have decided to offer an improved 24/7 service. Solo travellers are being emphasised in the better all-round service, with new trains containing pod-like single berths as well as standard sleeper and sleeper carriages. The single berths allow travellers to lock themselves in dormitory-style cabins for privacy. The trains have been approved for use in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands. They will enter service on the Vienna-Hamburg and Innsbruck-Hamburg lines on 10 December. Tickets go on sale on 11 October. --CNN Travel News (9 January 2024)
1.2 The price of olive oil has soared.
Many Mediterranean olive trees have dried up due to increasingly harsh weather conditions such as drought and severe hailstorms that have caused flooding. Extreme weather conditions in Europe have caused the price of olive oil to skyrocket, and while higher prices are also being felt around the world, they are hitting Europe the hardest, not least because for many Europeans, olive oil is more than just an ingredient - it's an irreplaceable cultural icon. -- BBC Travel News (18 December 2023)
