Yesterday in Belgrade I visited the Blue train, an historical train built after WW2 for the President of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito. Walking through the carriages gives a weird feeling as this train contains a part of History.

The train was used for diplomatic meetings and notably hosted Queen Elizabeth 2, Yasser Arafat or Jawaharlal Nehru. It was also going across the biggest railway line built under Tito's lead, from Belgrade to Bar (Montenegro).

In the depot where it is, there are other parts of the Blue train that cannot be visited, including the first steam locomotives used before turning to diesel locomotives. Definitely worth the visit 🚂

The Macedonian website CRNOBELO.com talks about Urbex and lost socialism (formerly WayOut53)! I'm very happy and thankful for this article 😎💪 The article goes back to my passion for urbex, my personal connection with the notion of power and of course the way I share about Macedonia through its abandoned venues and (not abandoned) spomeniks 😘 You can find the article with this link (and a pretty damn good translation with Google translate). Фала!

Olympic Winter games in Sarajevo, 1984. Most of the venues used for these Olympics are now part of the landscapes in Sarajevo. Some of them have been renovated and are being used such as Skenderija Hall (5) that hosted the ice hockey or Zetra ice rink (4) on which was built a smaller ice rink and some others are advertised as cultural places like the bobsleigh track on Trebević mountain (2) or the ski jumps at Igman mountain (1) (although now under renovation as well). The iconic Olympic tower (3) stands next to Zetra venues in the city center (the McDonald's sign was added later), a few meters away from the Olympic Hall (6) that hosted figure skating and ice hockey and was destroyed during the Bosnian war and rebuilt after.

Welcome to the Tirana Express 😎
Two days ago I had one of the most interesting urbex in my life. I walked along the fully abandoned railway that goes from northern west (Durrës) to northern east Albania (Pogradec) on the part that goes through Elbasan. I eventually got to the abandoned station which was also full of trains coming from former communist countries, notably Czechoslovakia, waiting for passengers for years now.

Kombinat, Tirana - In the industrial neighborhood, a view of the main square with men playing dominoes in the street (which also reflects patriarchy in Albania) (1). Behind them, the yellow and pink building was a textile factory offered by Stalin to Albania while Enver Hoxha ruled the country. A statue of Stalin stood in the middle of the place (2). The statue is now stored in the backyard of the National Gallery of Arts (3).
