Medieval Origins and Peat Digging

• Peat Excavation: During the medieval period, from around the 9th to the 14th centuries, peat was extensively dug from the land in Norfolk. Peat was a crucial resource used for fuel.
• Flooding: As peat excavation continued, the pits created by this digging gradually filled with water due to rising water levels and poor drainage. This led to the formation of the broads – shallow lakes interconnected by a network of rivers and waterways.

Today we sourced some amazing photography prints of Cromer, Happisburgh, Wells and can you guess the last one?? All will adorn the walls of Broad House very soon! We stumbled upon at . So talented and super friendly! Definitely tempted to go back for more 😊 Highly recommended. Holt Sunday Market is a great day out if you’re staying with us. The first Sunday of every month now until December!

We love the Actinidia kolomikta climber we have growing over the gate arch at Broad House. It’s popular for its distinctive and attractive foliage. Very fast growing with twining stems and heart shaped leaves which are initially green but on mature plants will be topped with this gorgeous pink and silver. Beautiful!

Here’s a reminder of our floorplan. 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 3 ensuites, 1 family bathroom and 2 separate living spaces consisting of a large open plan kitchen diner with 2 sets of bi fold doors out onto the large patio and a smaller cosy lounge with wood burner! (green Porsche not included 😆)

The master suite at Broad House takes up the entire 1st floor! It has a superking size bed, 2 double wardrobes and dressing table. The en-suite boasts a double shower with huge rain shower head in the ceiling plus hand held shower and roll top bath. Take in the views sitting on the gorgeous antique occasional chair with foot rest!

The pretty stream that runs under Broad House which is in the background of this short video. Broad House was the old mill keepers property. The stream runs towards the remains of the old mill which dates back to 1770 and steeped in history. Now renovated into a luxury holiday let for guests to enjoy the stunning unspoilt setting.

The Weavers Way Circular Walk is right on the door step of Broad House. Perfect for walking enthusiasts and dog owners.
Weavers’ Way is a 61 mile walking route from Cromer to Great Yarmouth passing through Hanworth, Blickling, Aylsham, Acle and Halvergate.
Linking the north Norfolk coast at Cromer to the east Norfolk coast at Great Yarmouth, Weavers’ Way passes through a diverse landscape of woodland, mixed farmland, disused railway lines, riverside walks and the famous Norfolk Broads.
