Wadi Rum desert is dotted with sand dunes. Both yellow and red. The highest dune can be found in Wadi Um Ishrin. But we prefer to visit the one near Khazali canyon. For two reasons. Climbing this dune is easy as you can climb via the rocks on the side. When on the top, you will have plenty of energy left to enjoy the beautiful valley views. And to run down the dune. The intense red of the dune and the deep blue of the sky above is a fascinating view that will make you instantly curious to walk to the sand dune.

The main entrance to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra in southern Jordan. Also known as Siqit, it is a dim, narrow gorge (in some points no more than 3 metres (10 ft) wide) and winds its way approximately 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) and ends at Petra's most elaborate ruin, Al Khazneh (the Treasury). A wide valley outside leading to the Siq is known as the Bab as-Sīq (Gateway to the Siq). 🐫🇯🇴

The Dead Sea has the lowest elevation and is the lowest body of water on the surface of Earth.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For several decades in the mid-20th century the standard value given for the surface level of the lake was some 1,300 feet (400 metres) below sea level.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Beginning in the 1960s, however, Israel and Jordan began diverting much of the Jordan River’s flow and increased the use of the lake’s water itself for commercial purposes.

For many individuals Jordan begins and ends with the magic ancient Nabataean town of Petra.

And it is true, Petra is without doubt one of the Middle East’s most spectacular, unmissable sights, battling it out with Machu Picchu or Angkor Wat for the title of the world’s most dramatic “lost city”.

The small, semi-arid Western Asian Arab state of Jordan is located on the Jordan River’s eastern bank. The region that is now Jordan was the seat of many ancient civilizations.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
People have inhabited the area since the Palaeolithic Age. Later, several kingdoms ruled in the region including the Roman Empire and the Ottoman Empire.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The latter ruled the area until the First World War. During the war, the Ottomans were overthrown from power in 1916 following the Great Arab Revolt.

The Petra Monastery is likely going to be one of the last places you visit on a day trip to Petra on account of its location. First you have to hike in four kilometres from the main Visitor Centre. There’s nothing hard about the hike though it might be stinking hot (35°C plus), depending on the time of the year you visit.

Along the way you’ll want to stop at some of the many highlights including the Treasury and the Royal Tombs. If it’s hot, get something cold to drink at the Basin Restaurant and Museum, located at the start of the trail to the Monastery.

This magnificently restored theatre is the most obvious and impressive remnant of Roman Philadelphia, and is the highlight of Amman for most foreign visitors.

The theatre itself is cut into the northern side of a hill, and has a seating capacity of 6000.

The best time for photographs is the morning, when the light is soft – although the views from the top tiers just before sunset are also superb.

‘Bab Al Siq’ is Arabic for gateway to the ‘siq’. Here you will see three massive Djinn blocks, which are squared monuments carved out of the rock.

You will then come across the Obelisk Tomb, which was carved by the Nabataeans in the 1st century AD. Above the tomb are four pyramids (‘nafesh’) as well as a niche with a statue in bas-relief that is a symbolic representation of the five people buried there.

Below it is the Triclinium, which was a banqueting hall. In the opposing cliff face there is a double inscription in Nabataean and Greek that refers to a burial monument. 🇯🇴🐫🦅
