Downhill Derelicts Forged in 2003, the Downhill Derelicts are an International Alpine community focused on creating a positive impact on our members and the alpine community.

The Downhill Derelicts are an international free-riding group (skiers and boarders welcome) founded in 2002 by two friends who journeyed to Whistler, BC for a four day spring ski trip. Twenty-two years later, the group is made up of over 70 members who come together each year from all over the world to enjoy the wondrous nature, people, and reignite their souls in the shadows of the mountains of W

histler-Blackcomb. In 2017, the Downhill Derelicts set forth with a mission to give back to the Whistler community that has welcomed them by forming a grassroots fundraising initiative for the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program (WASP). Together with the support of family, friends, locals, and the occasional stranger, the group has raised over $250,000 for WASP, funding programs for veterans and first responders living with PTSD, as well as adults and children of various physical and mental abilities.

We often say, "The impact of every avalanche starts with a single snowflake." It means that when we come together as one, we can have great impact.

During this past week in Canada, we heard and saw the frustrations of Canadians with recent decisions happening in Washington, DC. And while we hail from five nations, many of us are from the US.

Canada and the US share the longest non-militarized border in the world. Our service men and women have fought shoulder-to-shoulder throughout our nations' histories, and we share many of the same core values. We freely visit each other's mountains, beaches, forests, and cities.

In 1939 Winston Churchill, describing the 5000-mile peaceful border dividing Canada and the United States, said, 'That long frontier from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans, guarded only by neighborly respect and honorable obligations, is an example to every country and a pattern for the future of the world.

We hope that we can be an example and reminder that we are neighbors, friends, and family. Over the past eight years, the Downhill Derelicts, with support from our friends, family, colleagues, and curious generous strangers in both the US AND Canada, have raised more awareness and approximately $393,300 for the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program.

Spread the word.

It’s the last day of our 23rd Annual Downhill Derelicts trip. We will be announcing our 2025 fundraising total for Whistler Adaptive this afternoon (4:15) at the Longhorn Saloon. Come meet the team and the staff and volunteers of Whistler Adaptive.

A HUGE thank you to our friends, families, and many a curious stranger who believe in this cause.

If we had one message to share with our followers, it’s to go find a non-profit doing good work in your community, organize around them and help them with sustained funding that they can plan for.

We’re coming into the final day of our 2025 campaign for the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program. While we’re just under our goal, this years class has been determined to bring g the awareness to the community. Many chairlift and table chats with visitors and locals about the impact of adaptive programs.

The Downhill Derelicts headed over to the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program Centre on Tuesday and took a few laps with Aven Elsberg and his amazing mom and sister.

Finding the joy in the present reminds us all that “Yesterday Is Past. Tomorrow Is Not Guaranteed. So Today We Ride.”

"Yesterday is past. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. So TODAY, WE TAKE ACTION?

For those who know the Downhill Derelicts, you know our motto ends: 'Today We Ride!' But in recent years, we’ve listened closely to the stories of the incredible individuals in our adaptive sports programs. Many have shared their concerns about the challenges of securing sustainable funding and the pressures that come with running a non-profit.

And we heard you.

That's why, in 2024, we took a meaningful step toward creating lasting change. The Downhill Derelicts Foundation Endowment Fund was established with the goal of ensuring that our support for adaptive programs will continue to thrive long after our current generation of Derelicts has hung up their skis and snowboards. Every year, we support these programs through trip attendance and, most importantly, the incredible generosity of our friends, families, and those random, wonderfully kind-hearted individuals who choose to give.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to make a difference — because tomorrow is not guaranteed, but our legacy can be.

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!

The Downhill Derelicts are honored to have been selected by Peak Fighting to promote our cause to knock out the physical and financial barriers to adaptive sports programs. Keep an eye out Saturday evening (Jan 25) on FUBO TV for Downhill Derelicts Mateen Chishti and Chris Weagel as they make ring announcements of our Today We Ride campaign and make sure you cheer for Bailey King in the co-main event! Good luck to all the fighters.

In 71 days the Downhill Derelicts will be holding its 8th annual fundraiser for the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program. Over the past seven campaigns, we’ve raised awareness to the benefits of adaptive programs for youth and adults alike, veterans and first responders, and their families and communities. With the help of our family, friends, and colleagues, we’ve raised over $300,000 for these programs. We are so committed to these programs, we started our own foundation to ensure that we can maximize every donation. Read more here and consider sponsoring a Derelict in this “earn it” event.

The 2024 class of the Downhill Derelicts just wrapped up their 22nd annual trip to Whistler and what a week it was. Two days of knee high powder followed by three bluebird days of early Spring skiing. And with the help of our many donors, made up family, friends, colleagues and strangers moved by our mission of awareness for adaptive sports, we raised $80,000 for the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program.

A huge thanks to all of our donors thus far. We've almost hit 20% of our total event goal with a lot of guys still just getting started.

We were really excited to announce to the group this week that two-time Paralympian medalist, world record holder, and avid blind skier Donovan Tildesley will be our keynote at our opening ceremonies in Whistler on March 10th. He'll be sharing how adaptive sports programs impacted his journey and to help us all connect deeper with the amazing individuals behind these programs.

After speaking with Donovan this past weekend and learning about him and his start into competitive swimming at the age of nine, and then watching the video below and hearing him talk about skiing, I am so amped to get to know him better and hoping we get to make some turns together. His passion for riding mountains sounds like every other Downhill Derelict I know.

Again, thank you all. It is because of YOUR support of our event that together we can make these programs possible. We're looking forward to helping the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program identify that next kid who could be the next Donovan. Maybe he or she is just starting out, but together we're helping make the journey possible and creating the next generation of Downhill Derelicts. :) If you want to pledge to our event, you can do that here https://charity.pledgeit.org/DownhillDerelicts

Check out Donovan's video here.
