Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica. 😉
Did you know? Tracks aren’t always left or seen, as bears usually walk on the soles of their feet. We're dreaming of long summer days, endless sunshine, and seeing bears in the wild. What are you dreaming of these days?

Dog sledding has long been part of Alaska’s history.
From the famous Iditarod race, originated in 1973, to the tales of Togo and Balto in the 1925 “Great Race of Mercy”, sled dogs have served many purposes. Alaska Natives have been using them to transport supplies for several hundred years, but they are valued for more than that. They are a protector of sorts, alerting their owners to threats of wild animals nearby, and today a part of many beloved family groups. Traditionally, the Malamute (native to Alaska) and the Siberian Husky were the breeds of choice. However, today you will find the Alaskan Husky, a mix of several breeds.

We are planning for the future, building itineraries, and anticipating the time when everyone can travel freely again. Stay safe - stay healthy. And, start dreaming of your next adventure.
“As a teenager I spent the majority of my free time in the woods. I enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and camping. I took courses to learn skills and prepare for contingencies, not IF they would be needed, but WHEN they would be needed. The most important skill I learned for handling crises was called PMA, or Positive Mental Attitude. It has saved my life in more than one situation - in the woods of Northern Minnesota, in the slums of Tijuana, in the plains of Kenya, in the mountains of China, and in the sub-zero Arctic. The idea of PMA is not to pretend things are rosy when they are not, but to help one be disciplined to remain calm, carefully assess the circumstances, make a plan for yourself and others, then carry out the plan. Assess, Plan, Act. This is the pulse of TRŪ at the moment, where we will stay calm and carry on.” - Jake Finifrock

Using experiences from Mexico, the UK, Kenya, and China he will cut to the heart of communicating across cultural differences. We believe that attentive cross-cultural travel can bring about positive life change and be a force for peace and mutual understanding on a global scale. Will you join us?

The red-crowned crane was thought to be near extinction at the turn of the 20th century. However, in 1926 a small group of cranes was discovered near Kushiro, and in 1950 a local farmer began feeding them with corn. Now, 70 years later, the crane population has grown and winter is the best time to view them in the feeding grounds around Kushiro. They are particularly known for the way they 'dance', usually in pairs, dipping and jumping around each other.

The Ainu people were only formally recognized as indigenous in 2019. They have a long history in Japan, and today most Ainu live in Hokkaido. While at Lake Akan, we had the opportunity for a forest hike to visit the local village.
