SUMMARY...Scattered storms with capability of exceeding short-term
(1-3hr) lower FFG values pose possible isolated flash flooding
risk.

DISCUSSION...Recent RADAR mosaic and GOES-E visible and EIR denote
convective initiation and recent uptick in vertical depth to
thunderstorms across northeastern IL. Goes-E WV shows a
favorable anti-cyclonically arched cirrus canopy across northern
Illinois in advance of mid-level short-wave cross central IL
indicative of increasingly divergent/diffluent flow aloft
supporting a favorable upper-level dynamic environment for better
large scale ascent and outflow to thunderstorms. In the lowest
levels, moisture has been steadily increasing, particularly in the
lowest level near/just above the boundary layer resulting in total
PWat values of 1.75". In the same low level flow regime,
increasing higher Theta-E air aided with filtered solar radiation
has resulted in increased unstable air for stronger vertical
development. While only around 1200-1400 J/kg currently, this
appears to be sufficient for deeper vertical development with
overshooting tops cooling and during the maturing phases allow for
increased residency time for additional flanking development to
restrengthen initial updrafts. Increased isallobaric inflow will
also increase moisture flux to support rats of 1.5-2"/hr.

Deep layer mean winds are generally favorable toward the NNE for
current orientation of convective lines to result in short-term
repeat/training before eastward propagation starts to increase
over the next few hours. Hourly totals of 1.5 to 2" are possible
with these cells and if repeats due occur occasional totals of
2.5-3" (in less than 3hrs) may be isolated across the MPD area of
concern. While the area has been very dry, with NASA LIS 0-40cm
soil saturation between 5-10% in northern IL to 15-30% across
central/eastern IL into western IND; FFG values are still in the
range of expected hourly totals and 3hr totals across the urban
sections of Chicagoland but also the area between I-57 and I-55 to
about I-70. As a result, there may be isolated pockets of flash
flooding to occur through the next few hours before moving across
higher FFG values across IND.
