Dunkirk🇫🇷 known for its role in World War II but did you know all of these curiosities?

1️⃣Dunkirk is uniquely positioned near the borders of Belgium and the Netherlands. On a clear day, you can see the coastlines of all three countries from Dunkirk’s beaches.

2️⃣Dunkirk’s Risban Lighthouse is one of the few in the world that was built on sand dunes and appears to “float” when viewed from certain angles.

3️⃣Dunkirk hosts one of the longest and wildest carnivals in Europe? Lasting for over two months, there’s a tradition of skating on ice while wearing colorful costumes.

4️⃣The nearby village of Zuydcoote was completely buried by sand during the 18th century due to shifting sand dunes. Today, fragments of the old village can occasionally be seen when the dunes shift again.

Discover the best of Funchal on this unforgettable tour! Start your day at the Farmers Market. Here you’ll find the most beautiful flowers, exotic fruits, vegetables and souvenirs, all beautifully displayed in a Market full of life.

Next, visit Monte, located east of Funchal and for many centuries, the summer refuge for many wealthy families.

Today, no visit to Madeira island is complete without a tradicional ride on a Sledge at Monte. This type of transportation started in 1850 and was created by the residents in order to arrive fast at Funchal. Each toboggan has two sledge drivers called “Carreiros”, dressed in white pants, typical straw hat and special rubber soled boots.

To complete this day enjoy a traditional Poncha Tasting, a drink made with “aguardente de cana”, honey, sugar, and either orange juice or lemon juice. 🍹
