Today is a public holiday in the Czech Republic. And why? We celebrate the day of the Slavic brothers Cyril and Methodius. At the time of Great Moravia, Prince Rostislav asked the Byzantine Emperor Michael III to send bishops who would be able to conduct masses in the Slavic language. Thus, after the arrival of Cyril and Methodius, 3 languages were used: Latin, Greek and Old Slavonic. From this, the individual languages were then separated and one of them is Czech.

The sculpture of Cyril and Methodius is the last sculpture on Charles Bridge, dating from 1928-1938. Originally, St. Ignatius stood here, but it collapsed into the Vltava River. Although the sculpture is so "young", it respects the Baroque character of the other sculptures. The work is dominated by the frontal figures of Slavic saints, St. Methodius blessing, the younger St. Cyril bringing a book and a model of a Romanesque rotunda symbolizing the spread of Christianity and education. The allegorical figures at the bottom represent Czechs, Moravians and Slovaks.
