We had two fabulous trips to Fiji with so many great dives and sightings, and what could be better than a happy Dr Richard Smith - Ocean Realm Images finally finding his fabulous Pygmy.

Aah three lovely little fishy mates! Great dive with full fat fish!

We saw three gorgeous Pontoh’s Pygmy Seahorses (Hippocampus pontohi) here in Fiji yesterday. I think Fiji was actually the first place I saw this species 20 years ago. At that time they weren’t even described. I estimate this one would measure 1.8cm in length, so wouldn’t quite stretch across a US 1 cent coin/ UK 1 penny coin 🤯 They spend their lives clinging to little hydroids or algal tufts, this one was at 15m/45ft deep.

We are very near the start of our two charters on board the NAIA
We were lucky to have a few diving days here at Volivoli Beach Resort to get into the time zone and gather our dive souls together! We had to get the muppet dive out the way after all!!

In February of this year we completed a very successful couple of charters aboard to the Coron area of the Philippines. We worked closely with the boat to create a fascinating itinerary that took us in search of endemic and fascinating fishes as well as others that had never even been photographed alive before! It was a grand adventure that I wrote about in this feature for …have a look :)

We love the little things :)

A wonderful little undescribed Coral Hermit Crab that we saw here yesterday in the Solomon Islands 🥰 Like other hermit crabs, these guys have soft and vulnerable tails that need some protection from predators. Whilst other hermits co-opt the shells of dead snails, coral hermits spend their lives with their tails in a hole on corals. This obviously limits their ability to travel, so they have adapted appendages that they use to filter food from the water column. They are tiny, but incredibly beautiful 🤩

Very sad to say goodbye to the fabulous Martin Edge. It was a pleasure to meet you and to run a number of great trips with you over the years. I was so impressed with your kind and gentle teaching techniques to both the guest and the animals. I was terrified of having to E6 process your slides in case anything went awry (thankfully it never did!). What a splendid Gentleman, you leave a big hole. Sending all thoughts to the wonderful Sylvia Edge and family at this very sad time.
