It's snowing outside my window in Ohio right now. My buddy TP, I know he is thinking about plowing his driveway right now in the dark.
February weather is bipolar in Ohio.
It's been a couple of months since I have posted on this page. 2 months tomorrow, actually.
I'm having fun being back home. Catching up with people has been really nice. Every time I come back from a long trip, Cincinnati grows on me more, and a little bit more.
I'm really lucky to have great friends, clients, and my family that support me so graciously!
I'd be lost down the road without them.
My next travel adventure won't be too soon, but soon enough, no matter how soon it is.

While driving through Santander de Colombia. The water falling was so powerful. The water spray was like standing in the rain. Good thing I had my drone to be able to get back away for a shot. The image still isn't able to express the power we felt standing at the bottom.

Traveling around Colombia finding a decent cigar to smoke for a fair price isn't easy. I'm still surprised about it. But, I was really surprised when we drove upon George's farm. I stopped right in my tracks when I saw the barn full of dried to***co. It was beautiful!
We agreed to see if anyone was around to talk with. We scored, receiving a warm welcome that included a tour of the house and farm. Georges wife made us a coffee while we talked. They were so nice and happy to share their work. But, still I couldn't find a cigar. Lol.

All of his to***co is sold to big business that exports to big cities or out of the country. Nothing stays to be community product.
We found George's farm driving down Chicamocha Canon to a small town called Jordan, Santander, Colombia.

To***co growing in Colombia can be dated as far back as 1776. The most important to***co producing regions in Colombia are: Santander (36%), Huila (19%), Sucre (17%), Bolivar (9%), Boyaca (10%) and Norte de Santander (10%). (https://atlas.to***coleaf.org/colombia/)

The (hormigas culonas / fat-bottomed ants) ants are a delicacy. Made right and they will have you hooked on your new favorite snack! They are a tradition in the department of Santander.
This little boy really worked to get these ants. Him and his mother get up early to wait for the ant to come out of their burrows in the ground in April. Then they are roasted and salted.
"These ants are only harvested during the rainy season. They are believed to be aphrodisiacs and are often given as wedding gifts. Production centres around San Gil and Barichara, Boyaca, but the ants are traded as far afield as Bogota and Bucaramanga and exported to Canada, England and Japan." https://www.colombia.co/en/colombia-country/colombian-insects-can-eat/

As we were driving up the mountains near Cerrito, we saw this man's family out on their beautiful property. My girlfriend says, "stop" "they are beautiful", "lets go talk to them"! This Colombian farmer is coming to the last days of production on his property. Unless his kids and or grandkids takes up the responsibility of farming the land will become useless. As most of the younger generations are sold on the way of the city life being easier and a faster prospect to generating wealth, the industry of small farming everywhere is suffering on a community level.

What do you think is a better view?
This is my new home for a couple months.
So far the sunrises from a top the mountain are a strong view time. I can't decide which is better, but I might say the night sky takes seconds place.

Here is a waterfall, a river, and a church.
Close to Ipiales, Colombia is the Quebrada De El Marro rio that run beneath National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Las Lajas. The most unique location for a church that I have ever seen.

Acai. Climb the tree. Remove the berries with machete. Drop the machete. Climb back down the tree. 20 minutes, soak berries in water to loosen outside flesh. Hand wash the berry flesh through a strainer to separate the seeds. The Acai liquid remaining is for drinking.

The sun setting as fishermen returning.

Here is a image from Leticia de Colombia. After many months living in Colombia working to learn the Spanish language I felt comfortable enough to make a so trip back to the Amazon. My first trip to the Amazon in 2009 changed my perspective on this world. I wanted to learn Spanish before returning so I could somewhat communicate with the locals.
The Amazon holds a special almost indescribable energy that I see as sacred and scarce. Experiencing the Amazon coming from the modern world is so impactful. I really enjoy watching and learning techniques of the daily lifestyle and culture around economics, goods traded and sold with communities. Watching modernism creep into these communities is interesting and scary. Seeing how energy and technology is being constructed and absorbed in villages is also scary to think about when it is changing how natural resources are seen and being used by the people. The indigenous people from these areas are being introduces to a world of energy that they have no choice over and that in my opinion is not there to help them.
