Meknes 📍is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco🇲🇦, and the sixth largest city by population in the kingdom. Founded in the 11th century by the Almoravids as a military settlement, Meknes became the capital of Morocco under the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismaïl (1672–1727), son of the founder of the Alaouite dynasty🔥💯. Volubilis (en berbère , walili) est le vestige d'une ville romaine construite sur l'ancien site d'une ville punico-berbère, qui fut capitale du royaume de Maurétanie, située dans la plaine du Saïss, dans le Nord marocain, sur les bords de l'oued Rhoumane, rivière de la banlieue de Meknès, non loin de la ville sainte de Moulay Driss Zerhoun où repose Idriss Ier, fondateur de la dynastie des Idrissides.

Partiellement découverte de nos jours, la cité antique éclot à partir du iiie siècle av. J.-C. en tant qu'établissement punique et se développe rapidement à partir du moment où elle entre dans le giron romain, pour dépasser une superficie de 42 hectares.
