After 17 years of running our world-famous rallies, we have come to the end of the road for the Crumball Rally. Rising costs of fuel, hotels, ferries, tolls, emission restrictions in many EU countries, and of course finding a cheap enough car, have all played a part in this difficult decision.
Over the years we have visited many fantastic places, driven some of Europe’s finest roads, witnessed the most crazy and inventive car themes and costumes, but above all, made many good friends, and created memories to last a lifetime.
Drive Another Day 2023 was our last Crumball Rally. In celebration of all you wonderful gals and guys who made it all happen, the website will remain on view until the end of the year.
In the meantime, you can still contact us to share your pictures and memories. Sincere best wishes for the future to all our teams, for your willingness to take part in the challenges, forgiveness when things did not go entirely to plan, and for keeping the bars, restaurants, and filling stations of Europe in profit, we Salute you, Paul, and Patrick.
Finally a few images from our signature, and very first event, The Italian Job 2007.

Congratulations and many thanks from all of the Crumball team, to those who not only made it to the end after 4 hot days (and most if not all of you without aircon!), but were fantastic sports and many laughs along the way. One of the best rallies ever, and proved the point over and over, that you are the ones that make the trip successful. We lost a couple of cars along the way, either by design or breakdown, but equally, several appeared to be terminal but were nursed to the finish...respect. To finish, a few photos, including one of my favourites, "Skyship 500" piloted by Miles and Kamil.... Cheers Paul

A gentle reminder.....you may like to brush up on your knowledge of the James Bond films....as once again in Venice we will be playing "Double or Seven"....as a homage to our hero's casino exploits. At the very least watch "For Your Eyes Only".

Important: French Low Emissions Zones. Please take note of the comments below on the option to buy a "Crit'Air" sticker online for our visit to Reims. By now I expect most of you are working on dressing up your chariot and making sure your brakes are in good order! Look forward to seeing you all soon.

Disposing of your car in Nice. If you are planning to fly back from Drive Another Day, here is an updated advance extract from the rally instructions.

You will need your car registration document (V5) and the registered keeper should be present.

You have several weeks in which to locate a suitable scrapyard. Start by looking online in the French Yellow Pages
https://www.pagesjaunes.fr/

and Auto-Occasion: http://www.auto-occasion.fr/nice/casse-auto-ville-nice.html

Then search for “casse automobile” or “casse-auto” (auto scrapyard) and “Nice” or “Alpes-Maritimes" as the location. Most facilities have their own websites with opening hours etc. Here is a selection that might be of use, but we don’t guarantee that they will be open or take your car as scrap.

We have found that telephoning and / or emailing in advance is the best way to go, and if your French is not up to scratch you can always use the Google translation thingy.

Also consider Freecycle Nice – worked the last time we were there’ https://www.freecycle.org/town/NiceFR

Casse Auto 06
rte Levens, 06730 Saint André de la Roche NICE

Auto Choc
55 chemin de la Campanette, 06800 Cagnes-sur-Mer

Europ’Casse
338 Route De Grenoble, 06200 NICE

Car Art
270 Route Turin, 06300 NICE (favourable reports previously)

SNEGBA
37 Chem Serres de Saquier, 06200 NICE

Mayenc et Ghaffary
62 Boulevard Rene Cassin, 06200 NICE

Auto Demolition
13 Avenue St Joseph, 06000 NICE

SARL Autocasse
370 Chemin Sablieres, 06000 NICE

An alternative to scrapping your car is to sell it. Many teams in the past have been able to dispose of their chariot to bar staff / locals / Aussie backpackers etc. in exchange for a few beers.

This weekend we went to Cortina D'Ampezzo and Venice in preparation for Drive Another Day. The scenery around Cortina is magnificent, and it gave us a chance to visit the key locations featured in "For Your Eyes Only", and to come up with our signature "photo matching" challenge for Day 3 and a Venice location. Over the next week or so I will be preparing the final instructions, which will be posted out with the door stickers, to each team leader. P.S. Whether you have a chariot or not, please make sure your brakes are in fine fettle, you are going to need them

Calling all veteran teams. We as organisers only see one side of each day's events. Whilst we give advice and suggestions on the daily running, to help any first timers are there any nuggets of information or top tips you could pass on? Such as "I wish I knew this before...." or "it was really good to know this...." Keep it clean

Only (!) 4 and a bit months to go teams. Whilst I know some of you will already be scouring the garage for half tins of Dulux, the rest should seriously start considering a vehicle purchase. Remember, we have no problem if your car costs more than the £200 limit, so long as it is safe.

today is "James Bond Day", celebrating 60 years since our hero graced the silver screen. Whilst we don't expect a bevy of Aston Martins' on next years Drive Another Day, you might get some inspiration from the cheaper end of Bond cars....

To celebrate James Bond Day, we've selected ten Bond cars you can buy on a budget, including a Ford Mondeo, Sunbeam Alpine and BMW Z3.

Whoo-Hoo, a fantastic job to all those who were able to make The Great Escape last weekend, and we hope you all arrived home safely. A brilliant turnout both costume wise and for your competitiveness....A special thanks to our friend Porsche, who ran the event in his own big hearted style. This has been a strange year (yet again) for all of us, but we are "shaken but not stirred" and are looking forward to our 30th anniversary James Bond themed jaunt cross Europe next year. Look out for details here first...but for now, the challenge and best team winners from TGE.

To all teams confirmed as TGE starters, the weekend weather looks good. Have a safe trip to Koblenz and onwards, and look out for the street art in Dresden!

01/09/2022

Attention.....it has been pointed out by an eagle eyed reader of the TGE instructions, (thanks Garry), that there is a typo on the Day 1 start page.......we are most definitely meeting on the morning of the 23rd Sept, and not the 15th as printed. I would love to blame someone else for this schoolboy error, but alas it was down to idiot boy me.

Hello all you Great Escapers....I've had a couple of enquiries about the written instructions for TGE. I am sending these to the printers tomorrow, and so they should be with you all before next weekend. I hope all your preparations are going well and your chariot (if you have one yet) is being daubed accordingly.

Welcome back all M.I. teams….even those who took a leisurely sightseeing drive back through Europe in the heatwave, probably without aircon….respect. Congratulations to the challenge and best car winners…

31/05/2022

Hello all, car stickers, final instructions etc. for M.I. have all been printed or on the way. If there are any team leaders who have changed addresses, living on a friends sofa or busking, please let us know your current address in the next few days, otherwise they will be posted to the address you gave us at sign up. Please look out for a cardboard tube sometime towards the end of next week. 😎😎

Only 7 more weeks to go before Mission Impossible. The final instructions will be with team leaders a month before the start, detailing daily start and evening meeting points etc. There are also a couple of suggestions for those planning to dispose of their chariot in Prague. In the meantime, Covid restrictions appear to be lifting, but for the latest information please visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice
Likewise Driving in Europe pre-Brexit was relatively simple, but alas, things are a little more complicated now. For the latest information see https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad, or consult the RAC or AA websites.

OK....things are now starting to happen...after several quite months we will be contacting the bars / meeting points etc. that we've used in the past to see if they are still open, and if necessary research alternatives. This week we are also organising the graphics for the medals and door stickers. I will also be thinking about the traditional (but ultimately priceless) trophies.
