A memorable visit to the Vienna Provincial Court. The large jury courtroom from the 1870s is a fine example of Viennese classicism and historicism. A judge gave us a guided tour of the premises, and his highly interesting presentation of criminal law and capital punishment in the course of history made our time here fly by. The building also has an area with a memorial to those people who were put to death here. 1,200 persons were executed in this building in the Nazi era, but numerous death sentences were also carried out here during the monarchy.
