Rim/Cup of Acrylic, Lexan, or Delrin with Brass Underpart
A mouthpiece is made where the rim and cup are plastic* with a brass blank fixed to the outside. The result is a plastic* rim and cup with the qualities they offer, but with the extra 'brass-ness' of the brass blank and backbore as one piece. These take a plastic* rim/cup and get it much closer to playing like a brass mouthpiece.
Acrylic plays the most like brass. If you are looking for a plastic top with brass-like qualities, go with Acrylic.
Lexan has more 'grip' than silver plated brass or Acrylic.
Delrin has less 'grip' and feels softer and more slippery than silver plated brass or Acrylic.
--A mouthpiece can be made with your choice of stock shapes and/or shapes from the duplications catalog.
--A mouthpiece can be converted - you send in your mouthpiece and the rim/cup is duplicated and converted to plastic while retaining the original blank and backbore.
--An existing plastic top can be converted to accept an underpart.
There are two options:
1. The shell/blank is below the rim. This way the entire outer of the rim is plastic. This prevents the lips touching metal when releasing the spit valve.
2. The shell/blank extends halfway up the rim. This has more metal than the below the rim shell, but your lips may touch the metal when releasing the spit valve.
