Another fantastic day! From Nîmes, the city of alligators, to Pont du Gard and swimming in the river, to a fantastic charcuterie surprise for us…we will go to bed exhausted and smiling.

The most important thing to bring is your PASSPORT. Be sure you have that before meeting the bus.

Temperatures are very high in Europe right now. It's very hot, so it's important to have water on hand to stay hydrated (bring a water bottle for our day trips) and bring a hat to keep your head covered. Those dips in the lake are sounding better and better to stay cool!
Please let me know if you will meet the bus in Cornwall instead of Ingleside 🚌
Olive Oil 🫒
In many countries, olive oil is a luxury. In Barcelona, though, it flows like water. Spain is the number one producer of olive oil in the world and is responsible for more than 45% of the world’s olive oil.
In Spain, there are 260 different olive varieties overall. Just like wine, spirits and coffee, olive oils are rated for quality and defined by their taste. Which one you choose usually comes down to a matter of personal preference.
A nice souvenir to bring home which means enjoying that Mediterranean spirit for a few more weeks – or until your bottle runs out!

Nîmes, France 🇫🇷
We will be in Nîmes on Day 8 and will visit the Musėe (Museum) de la Romanite. Here is what one visitor had to say, “Excellent, world-class museum on the Roman Empire with a focus on the surrounding region. Great overview and an astounding collection of artifacts from 2,000+ years ago”.
We will also visit the Arena of Nîmes which is an amphitheatre that is one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world. The monument is 133 metres long, 101 wide and 21 metres high. It was built at the end of the 1st century AD, just after the Coliseum in Rome, as a gladiator games and venatio arena.
✨Our stop in Lake Como✨
Lake Como is one of the largest lakes in Italy. It’s in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, in an upscale resort area known for its dramatic scenery, set against the foothills of the Alps. Shaped like an upside-down letter “Y”, Lake Como has a 100-mile (160 km) long shoreline that is lined with countless charming towns and picturesque villages.
So visiting Como Lake is not as straightforward as you may think. It’s not a place where you just drive to one town, do a boat trip, and can see everything in a few hours. In fact, you could spend weeks traveling around Lake Como and still not see ‘everything’.
I’m not sure where we are having our free time in Lake Como but it will be well worth the stop on our way from Lucerne to Cinque Terre.
Anyone else packing this weekend? Shout out below if you have any helpful tips. What are you packing in your carryon that you can “grab and go” for our day in Zurich? What things might others forget?
I’ll go first - a hat for when we are in the sun all day and a travel umbrella for when it rains. They are going in my EF book bag in my carryon so I can grab and go for the day.
When we land in Zurich we will have a walking tour with Klaudia, we’ll grab some lunch and have some free time. Klaudia will give us some options but here are some things to consider:
Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city but also is very compact and easily walkable. Shopping? Follow the signs for Bahnhofstrasse. This pedestrian and tram-only street is Zurich’s main boulevard. Built in 1864, the 1.4km (less than a mile) street is also one of the most exclusive shopping districts in the world. The stores get nicer the closer you get to the lake. If you’re looking for designer fashions in Switzerland, this is your spot!
Our final hotel is the Checkin Garbi in Barcelona where we will spend 2 nights before flying home.

In Lucerne we will enjoy a cruise on Lake Lucerne and we will visit the top of a Swiss mountain, Mount Pilates, by cable car. For those of you who aren’t a fan of heights (me included), it’s a 3.5 minute ride and it’s considered a must for tourists who visit Lucerne.
