So here's a perspective that is genuinely good for everybody.
When considering giving a gift to somebody important enough that you would make such a consideration. Rather than purchasing something, here are two real alternatives that will last, make a difference, be useful, and thoughtful. Both of which could be included as one gift that will make a lasting impression to them and instill a prospective of their value to you.
1. Invest your time in making them something that couldn't be bought. (This not only is an investment in yourself and your ability that can transition across many skills, but also shows that you are invested in them).
2. Have them think of something they could use help with and then invest your time in doing what you can to assist or eliminate that hardship for them. (This could improve the overall happiness of their life; in turn, improving the overall happiness in your life).
This should be a PSA. But the service and value of a service project is understated in our current society. A forgotten baseline that definitely contributes to the issues we have today.
