Good afternoon,
FENATA's Chairperson Ms.Netumbo Nashandi, Mr Nrupesh' Soni from Namibia Travel & Tourism Forum , Mr.Kenneth From Sandwich Harbour Tours and Mr.Faustin from Mufasa Safaris, we had a meeting with DBN to discuss the Covid-19 tourism relief loan, to discuss the various points around the industry. To bring to their attention the exact scope of the devastation the pandemic has caused to service providers in the tourism space. Once again, due to the dynamic nature of the pandemic - this initiative is for the benefit of the entire tourism value chain and not just for association/federation members.
We will send out a form next week to get feedback from the industry to then send it back to DBN so they can look at adapting the loan condition to the current reality.
For those who missed the initial announcement from DBN, please see attached information sheet.

If you don’t associate Namibia with fine wines ... you have a rather unique opportunity to see what’s there. And of equal interest, see what a wine tour is like when it is fully customized by Namibians for Namibians. And involves wine tasting! I think it is safe to say that this wine tour will be going where no wine tour (anywhere) has gone before! And will be tasting the undiscovered! Give it a go! If you aren’t Namibian but have gone through the Covid travel hoops you are of course welcome to join, too!

BREAKING NEWS: QATAR LEAVES NAMIBIA .. tourism players left lamenting
Qatar Airways has left Namibia for South Africa, dealing a fatal blow to the tourism industry and players who have been dealing with the airline for their business.
The chairperson of the Emerging Tourism Enterprise Association, Joseph Kafunda also confirmed the news saying this was a devastating development for Namibia as Qatar was a lucrative airline for the domestic tourism sector.
"For me i had clients for this year booked with Qatar so i have to look for other means of getting them to Namibia. There is an opportunity in Namibia but if us, we in the tourism industry and i repeat it, "if us in the tourism industry" do not give them the opportunity they pack their bags, It's a loss, a huge loss, a massive loss to all of us," he told Eagle FM.
"In February I heard Qatar was closing down their operations and suspending flights until October 2021, and moving their operations to South Africa in the meantime. I know for a fact ( If you want your data to be safe, use pigeons ) that on 15th Feb 2021 FENATA asked the Associations for update on Qatar Airways and the responses from some Association chairpersons were shocking to say the least."
"How can someone actually say that 'we don't need too many airlines' just because they are worried that Lufthansa might lose some passengers to Qatar? Namibian Sun Ntts Namibia Namibia Tourism Board The Namibian Namibian Broadcasting Corporation The namibian newspaper
