can I let you in on a secret? hosting isn't my main gig but man, I love it. I get to be as nitpicky and meticulous as I want. I get to fuss with decor, write handmade tags for guest treats, partner with local businesses and artisans, tend all the houseplants, and try to anticipate guests' preferences and needs. of course, behind the scenes, there are hard days and late nights, folks who can't be pleased no matter how hard you try, budgets, endless repairs & maintenance for a remote alpine property, all the things.
BUT as someone who loves travel, beauty, caring for others, and home, I want our guests to feel nurtured. I want them to open the door and feel a gentle yet persistent invitation to set down whatever burdens they brought with them, settle in, and soak up the deepest restoration that only nature can provide.
I never set out to be a rental host. I'm an English professor by training (PhD in Victorian Lit). I'm also a devoted wife & mom (two amazing teen boys!), author (latest a terrarium book for kids called Tiny Dino Worlds), photographer, traveler, hiker, avid cook/baker, bookworm, homebody (yes, the simultaneous traveler/homebody thing causes issues). I speak Spanish and lived in Latin America for a few years doing service work and cultural studies. but, hey, those are just my roles and jobs (we all have them!). inside, I'm one of those sensitive types who craves and cultivates beauty in all its forms.
in the smile of a stranger, the buzz of a hummingbird, tiny purple flowers poking up through concrete cracks: beauty is everywhere, if you take the time to look. up here in the mountains, beauty is so massively in your face you'd have to have no senses at all NOT to feel its grandeur. but for each of us, sorrow and struggle shadow our steps in private, unknown ways. you never know what burdens someone else is carrying. remember to be kind and share some beauty today.
