I am currently on board the Emerald Princess on a 15-day Panama Canal cruise. This is its first voyage since the beginning of Covid 19 pandemic. This is also a new sea to sea voyage itinerary from Los Angeles, Puerto Vallarta, crossing the Panama Canal then to southern Caribbean islands- Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire ends in Ft. Lauderdale. The approved capacity is 30%- and there are 800 of us cruising. I feel the staff were more happy to see and serve us. I know I am going to be spoiled with all the attentions we’re getting.
This is our second day at sea. I am pleased with Princess’ Covid 19 protocols- all passengers vaccinated or not must have a negative PCR antigen test two days prior to sailing.
1). Masks are required at all times in inside areas.
2). Use of hand Sanitizers is available everywhere
3) Buffet dining areas have a sink for everyone to wash hands before entering.
4). Staff are ready to sanitize common areas immediately upon departures of guests to include beach chairs, tables, chairs and even the casino machines.
5). Of course, the dining tables and seating are socially distanced.
6). They place a marker if the tables are not sanitized marked Not Ready and upon cleanup- marked Ready.
7). The buffet food are served for each food tray.
8. Even drinks and juice are handed to guests.
9. The first few days - on 10/17- all guests will be tested with rapid antigen and with positive result staff will provide the necessary steps
10. Another Antigen test will be conducted 7 days after 10/24
Princess Medallion technology has been great with at least 90 percent touchless voyage.
I observed guests have welcomed all these necessary protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
With this initial experience, I am confident to market cruising again. I am already planning on my next cruise. The world is open to be venture out while observing and preventing the spread of this Virus.
I stayed at the Crown Plaza hotel which is a few blocks away from Pier 91 in San Pedro, Ca. The hotel provides a shuttle to the ship at a minimal cost.
Enjoy some of my photos during embarkation.
More pictures to come! .
