Makena Beach is also called Big Beach and located on the far south side of the island. As the name suggests this beach is big - who would've guessed! It's a great stop for a roomy beach, boogie boarding, sun tanning, and any else you could enjoy at a beach. This beach has some strong shore break so be cautious if you have small children.
A scenic drive but is not made for the faint of heart. This narrow, winding road starts in Kapalua and ends in Wailuku in Central Maui. The road has plenty of incredible views and must-see stops along the way. We recommend stopping at Slaughterhouse Beach, Honolua Bay, and Nakalele Blowhole just to mention a few! Note that the road is narrow and is two ways so tight squishes past oncoming vehicles and steep drop-offs on one side is a possibility - don't say we didn't warn you!
Looking to snorkel? Honolua Bay is a great stop on the West side of Maui. But there are plenty of great snorkeling spots all around the island. Makena Landing and Mala Wharf are two other excellent snorkeling stops. Expect to see plenty of fish, green sea turtles, and maybe even a few reef shark if you're lucky!

Mama's is currently booked 3-4 months out for dinner reservations. If you're lucky, you may be able to get a table for lunch. Mama's offers some of the best, locally caught fish. Its so fresh and local that below each menu item is the name of the local fisherman who caught the fish. Prepare to spend some money if you are lucky enough to enjoy this stop!
Looking for a nice hike, waterfall, and cool swim? Twin Falls is a great stop and located very early in on the road to Hana. I recommend doing a guided hike with Hike Maui for the full experience. They have access to trails not open to the general public, help you avoid the hassle of (very) limited parking, and ensure you go when conditions are best.

If you're looking for a quick burger, Haven's is a great stop. There smash burgers are tasty and make for a great "pick up and go" meal. If you're looking for a sit down experience, this hole in the wall isn't the best stop due to little to no seating
Wainapanapa State Park is the home of the black sand beach that you may have seen pictures of. Beyond the beach, there's plenty of beautiful views, cliffs, and Hawaiian landscape to explore here. Note that you do need reservations to be able to park and enter the park so plan ahead for this stop! Wainapanapa is located at mile marker 32 on the Road to Hana.
Like a lot of things in life, the winding road to Hana is more about the journey than the destination. 🚗

✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: Whale Watching 🐳👀
During the Winter months (December through March), humpback whales migrate down from the cold waters of Alaska to make Maui their home. If you're in Maui during peak season, you'll be sure to see whales breaching from almost any beach on Maui. But a guided whale watch is extra special and you're guaranteed some incredible (and sometimes up close) encounters with these giants. We recommend a whale watch through the PacWhale Eco-Adventures which departs from both Ma'alaea and Lahaina harbor (Ma'alaea being the closest to Kihei).
✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: Front Street in Lahaina is a picturesque area perfect for a scenic walk. It is quite a tourist attraction but offers some nice art galleries, restaurants, and plenty of shopping all within walking distance.
✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: Snorkeling 🤿🐢
If you're looking for a quick, accessible snorkel, most beaches in South Kihei and Wailea are separated by lava rock outcroppings. Sea life often make their home in these outcroppings and in the surrounding reef. Just head to a local beach, swim to the outcroppings at either side and explore! Some of our favorite snorkeling spots are Makena Landing Park in Wailea, 'Ahihi Bay, either end of Polo Beach and Keawakapu Beach.
If you're looking for a day trip with some incredible sea life, Molokini Crater is a small island located a few miles off of the South Shore of Maui. PacWhale Eco Adventures and several other companies offer snorkeling trips out to Molokini for around $150 per person.
When snorkeling, be careful of the sharp lava rock and coral. Also, be wary of currents and the tide as you follow the shoreline and swim away from the beaches. Have fun and be careful!
✅MAUI MUST-DO'S: Wailea Beach Path is a 1.5 mile path that fronts the hotels from the Andaz Maui to the Fairmont Kealani. Along the walk, take a dip in the cool ocean water or stop for a cocktail at Ferraro's at the Four Seasons.
✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: Hana
Hana is an iconic Maui activity where the drive to Hana is more about the journey than the destination. The winding road to Hana is dotted with waterfalls, scenic overlooks, and black sand beaches. It will take several hours just to drive from Kihei to Hana - not to mention the stops along the way you're bound to make. Along the road, there are food stands, waterfalls, beaches, and plenty of hikes. We recommend doing some research before hand to plan your trip and stops - you won't have any signal along the road. Plan for this to take a FULL day and be sure to bring your camera, hiking shoes, and swim suits!

✅ MAUI MUST DO'S: Maui Brewing Co () in Kihei is a large, local brewery with a state of the art facility and a great little gastropub with a wide selection of craft beer on tap. Even if you aren't a beer drinker, Maui Brewing boasts a great outdoor seating area with string lights and some tasty grub perfect for lunch or dinner.
✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: The Shops At Wailea is the place to go if you're looking for a high end shopping destination like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany's or Rolex. They also often host fun events here so be sure to check out www.theshopsatwailea.com/events to see whats going on!
✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: Haleakalā National Park
Haleakala National Park is a dormant volcano and a must see stop which gives you a glimpse into Maui beyond the beaches and waterfalls. It is most popular at sunrise but is just as incredible at sunset.
✅ MAUI MUST-DO'S: Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman Wailea ()
MonkeyPod Kitchen in Wailea is a great choice and Brandon Turner's personal favorite. They are a popular dinner spot so reservations are recommended to avoid a long wait. Their burgers and pizza are incredible and they have they best Mai Thai's on island.
