🔫💦💦💦 Songkran in Thailand – the ultimate guide to understanding the Kingdom’s New Year’s Celebrations 🎉 🏳️‍🌈🇹🇭

Among the world’s most fun and exuberant New Year’s celebrations, Songkran in Thailand is a festival for the senses and an experience to make memories that last a lifetime. The national holiday is celebrated each 13 April and followed by joyful festivities that last two days and span the entire Kingdom, from the northern city of Chiang Rai to Koh Lipe deep in the country’s south.

For years, Songkran has attracted travellers – including countless LGBT+ visitors – in search of a fun-filled spectacle or spiritual contemplation

The word Songkran is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘samkrãnti’, meaning ‘passage’ or ‘transformation’ and is rooted deep within Buddhist and Hindu mythology.
Songkran in Thailand has many different expressions, some of which are more or less adhered to across the country. For instance, it’s tradition for the locals to make merits at a Buddhist temple. This can involve giving alms to the monks or donating objects or construction materials to help with restoration efforts. On the islands, there’s also a tendency to refrain from any kinds of labour – other than cleaning the house – and to avoid hurting others, including animals. Meanwhile, Northern Thailand puts on spectacular processions involving performances and traditional costumes, and the lesser-visited eastern provinces build pagodas from sand and mud! Then, there’s the water-throwing, perhaps the best-known association to the holiday among tourists. Although this ritual is embraced throughout the Kingdom, there are varying degrees of how wild of a ride it gets: in Bangkok, where entire districts are closed to traffic, the ‘water festival’ is celebrated by thousands of party-goers day and night!
Usually those, who wanted to fight an epic water battle in the gay corners of Silom or Khao San Road off their bucket list should remember not to bring any electronics, or to store them safely in water-proof bags.
Remember, Songkran remains a meaningful celebration and Thais genuinely consider the water battle a communal washing away of past sins, negative energy and bad luck. As much as Songkran is perhaps the world’s most fun purification ritual, it also offers a chance to immerse yourself in the Kingdom’s age-old culture and beliefs, and a visit or two to a temple, to make a small offering or sit in peace with meditating monks, is a respectful and unforgettable way to honour an ancient tradition and give back to those who keep it alive.

GO GAY THAILAND wishes you all the most beautiful life. Happy Songkran

Return to Thailand – why a trip to the Kingdom might be better than ever in 2021 🏳️‍🌈🔜
Okay, let’s face it: 2020 wasn’t exactly the best year in travel. When travel slowly resumes, a journey to the Thai Kingdom no doubt ranks as a top priory.
Cascading waterfalls, otherworldly cave systems, tropical jungles and, of course, palm tree-lined beaches that give way to a glittering sea – the Thai Kingdom remains Southeast Asia’s ultimate travel destination, with adventure awaiting around each and every corner.
For those more interested in history and culture, there are the well-preserved temples of ancient capitals such as Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, as well as the Royal Palace and world-class art galleries of Bangkok. And let’s not forget about the food: ranking among the world’s most popular cuisines, Thailand’s culinary offering is incredibly varied, amazingly exotic and a journey for the senses. A country doesn’t get more quintessentially travel-worthy than this!
In Thailand, unwinding is a bit of a national sport: the general pace of life is slower, and treating yourself to a massage is everything but a luxury.
If unwinding isn’t what you’re looking for, chances are you’re a bit of a party animal – and Thailand has a legendary reputation for incredible LGBT+ nightlife!
Though that’s not all. Some iconic LGBT+ venues in Bangkok and beyond have used a quieter year to overhaul their venues, install better sound systems, revisit their menus, etc. – when the festivities resume, they’ll be wilder than ever!
Thai hospitality is world-famous for a reason. Following the ‘live and let live’ attitude that is fiercely ingrained in the local mentality, Thais and the many people who have chosen to live their lives here, embrace visitors from all over the globe with a warm sense of hospitality that is quite simply unmatched.
Whether your 2021 travels are all about reconnecting with yourself, exploring a fascinating culture or dancing the night away, the Thai Kingdom is sure to welcome you, your other half, your gay best friends or your modern family with an open embrace and a smiling heart – because even after a year that was difficult for everyone, some things never change!

Asians are beautiful, the famous photographer West Phillips proves with his photos 🌈👏😍

Photographer West Phillips wants to challenge stereotypes.
How many times have you seen a fit and s*xy shirtless guy in the mainstream media? Adverts, commercials, film, and TV? Now, how many of them have been Asian? The truth is, while it may be slowly changing, it’s still quite rare to have a non-Caucasian front and center, and even more rare for it to be an Asian man.
Photographer West Phillips spent years traveling the world, chasing adventure, and finding what seems to be an endless supply of handsome and fit subjects to photograph. Having worked with various modeling agencies and underwear brands, he built his name around photographing physique and fitness models from Bangkok to Taipei.

GREAT NEWS!!! 🇹🇭🌈👏
The Thai government approved the draft law on partnerships and amendments to the Civil and Commercial Code on Wednesday (July 8 th). Government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek wrote: "The Partnership Act is an important step for Thai society, a step towards equality and recognition that same-s*x couples have the right to form families."
The bill is a rich version, see below for details.

1. The term “partner” will define two persons of the same s*x at birth;
2. Courts with jurisdiction over juvenile and family cases have the power to consider and adjudicate on the civil partnership bill;
3. Both parties must mutually agree to register the partnership, be over 17 of age, either both parties or one party must have Thai nationality;
4. In case partners seeking registration are below the age of 17, they must obtain written consent of parents, adoptee, guardian or court first;
5. Both partners will have the same rights as heteros*xual couples as per the Criminal Procedure Code;
6. Partners will have equal rights to jointly owned private property and assets;
7. Same-s*x couples will have the right to adopt children provided the decision is mutually agreed upon;
8. When one partner dies, the other will have the same rights and duties as heteros*xual couples as provided in the Civil and Commercial Code on Heritage;
9. Provisions in the Civil and Commercial Code on spouses, families and adopted children will also apply to same-s*x couples.

The bill does not call same-s*x relationships "marriage," but the entry into force of this law would be a huge victory. "Name is not important, content matters," said Kittinan Daramadhaj, president of Reuters.
In addition, if the bill is adopted, Thailand will become the second Asian country, allowing it to formalize same-s*x couples.
Congratulations to Thai LGBT + organizations and their activists !!! 🇹🇭🌈👏

🏳️‍🌈🎥🇹🇭 On the occasion of the ongoing Pride Month, we would like to encourage you to familiarize with Thai LGBT cinema. In our opinion, we present two mandatory items. The first of them is the “Beautiful boxer”, who is already several years old. This film will allow to better understand the experiences of transgender people whose identity is constantly questioned and rejected in a conservative world. This is a biographical drama directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham from 2003, based on the story of one of the most famous kathoey, or trans women, in Thailand. The heroine of the film is Parinya Charoenphol, a former Thai boxing champion who underwent a gender correction surgery in 1999. In addition to the true story, you'll receive a dose of beautiful landscapes and Thai culture. The award-winning image at film festivals. Accepted with great enthusiasm by critics around the world.
The second suggestion is "How to win at checkers (every time)" dir. Josh Kim, Indonesia / Thailand 2015
"How to Win at Checkers” is a drama based on the threads of the best-selling book Sightseeing Rattawut Lapcharoensap, which shows the brilliance and shadows of growing up in modern Thailand. This country is considered one of the most progressive in Asia - homos*xuality was decriminalized in 1956. The background for the story of love and brotherly relations is not homophobia, but corruption and social inequality. It also interestingly shows the recruitment system of young Thai people to the army where their future is determined by lottery. The film was the official Thai candidate for the Oscar and was shown at the Berlinale Festival in the Panorama section."

🏳️‍🌈🇹🇭 We remind you that June is a month of pride and Thailand is a unique and very friendly place considered one of the most tolerant countries in Asia. Many g**s and le****ns openly admit their s*xual orientation, especially in cities such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and Koh Samui. Homos*xual and transs*xual actors play a key role in Thai films and soap operas.

It is also worth mentioning that Thai law from September 9, 2015 completely prohibits discrimination on grounds of s*xual orientation.

In June LGBT parades take place around the world to commemorate the Stonewall riots that broke out on June 28 in 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York, and launched the LGBT rights struggle.

This year, we probably won't be where we would like it, maybe we won't celebrate this month as we would like, maybe we won't go in parades this time but let's be proud of who we are!

Just in time for 🏳️‍🌈 😎

🏳️‍🌈🇹🇭 On the Children's Day, we would like to have only good news for you. Unfortunately, not everything is as colorful as we would expect, although the last month shows that Thailand is practically free from covid-19. The daily number of cases remains at the level of several individual cases not originating from local transmission. We are still waiting for information when the Thai government decides to restore international flights and thus tourism will slowly gain a chance for reconstruction. There is still a question, if the borders will be opened, what will be the rules for us to enter the Kingdom of Thailand, but it will show the future.
In the meantime, restrictions have been lifted from today:
The curfew has been reduced by one hour (currently from 23:00 to 03.00).
Shopping malls will be open until 21.00.
Beauty clinics and traditional Thai massage are resumed.🌈
Theaters and cinemas can be opened with a limited number of people during a performance or screening up to 200 people.
Football, basketball, volleyball, boxing - these sports can be trained but there is still a prohibition of competition in the above mentioned areas.
Zoos can be reopened as well as previously closed public beaches in the popular city of Pattaya.
The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) in Bangkok will be reopened on Thursday, June 4, 2020.
We hope that the next post will bring even better news and bring us closer to the reunion in the land of smiles.

We wish you a wonderful Children's Day

Bangkok comes to life!
Agglomeration of over 9 million, one of the most popular tourist destinations. In 2018, Bangkok was the most visited city in the world - 21.98 million tourists visited it! The city, as its name found in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest geographical name in the world says "The city of angels, the great city [and] the residence of the holy jewel Indra [Emerald Buddha], the unconquered city of God, the great capital of the world ..." not falling asleep held his breath.
Like most metropolises on these strange days.
The worst is probably behind him.

Less than a week has passed since the government eased restrictions on Covid in Bangkok. At this time, it seems that a lot is returning to normal, but not yet everything.

Stores?
Finally, after closing for over a month, the beloved Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok is reopened from today on May 9. On the other hand, the Camp Vintage flea market, located next to Chatuchak, will be reopened on May 15.

Street food?
Oh, yes, it returns, especially on Yaowarat Road, where only foil compartments on folding tables and neat queues suggest that the pandemic changed our street eating habits.

The climate of this city awakening back to life was captured perfectly.

Happy Songkran! Happy Thai New Year! 🌈💦

For Thai people Songkran symbolizes a move into new beginnings.

Usually, to commemorate this very special occasion, Thai people return to their hometowns to gather and celebrate with family and friends.
Water is an important part of Songkran celebrations. Water symbolizes the purification and according to Thai beliefs, water has the power to wash away bad luck and brings luck to a defected person..

This year, Songkran will be very subdued manner.

May we all emerge blessed beyond measure with good health, new perspective, happiness and prosperity.

Again, Happy Songkran! Happy Easter!

We have been traveling for 15 years, collecting experiences, sensations, flavors and smells.

We choose places that surprise and delight but are also LGBT + friendly.

We work with people for whom traveling and learning about other cultures is a real passion. You will find this passion, experience and attention to the smallest detail in our trips.

A few years ago we decided to stay in Thailand and together with the Thai people we created this place. We know Thailand not only from it’s tourist side but we also got to know the local gay scene.
