FIRST ALERT: With severe storms expected Tuesday, make sure you know the difference between a watch and a warning. The best way to explain the difference is to use the example of baking a cake:

A WATCH is when you have the ingredients to make a cake.

A WARNING is when the cake is ready to eat.

Take both watches and warnings seriously because when a watch is issued--the cake could already be in the oven, and as soon as the oven says ding, the cake is completed, and a warning is issued. Sometimes, there's no time for frosting.

Hubbard Glacier in the morning light. The only way to see this glacier is by cruise. And it is magnificent. The ice you see here is over 3 miles away and was made from snow that fell 400 years ago and traveled 76 miles to its ocean front destination. Hubbard Glacier is the largest glacier in North America and one that is still growing. How lucky are we to see nature at work!

We will be moving to Jacksonville in August.

We love this city/beach that is lesser known (but growing fast) among the beautiful coastal communities of the South.

Looking forward to being near to some important cruise venues, and yet not far from our current home in South Carolina. 

With 22 miles of beaches, and tons of family activities, it’s no surprise this is one of the best places to live on the East Coast.

Kayaking around Cuverville Island, Antarctic peninsula. Sheltered coves such as these make for the perfect kayaking adventure on sunny days. The water was so calm and clear that you could see the shallow bottom. The sea ice is beautiful up close but keep a distance from the larger icebergs. The gentoo penguins and weddell seals are endlessly entertaining. And totally unimpressed with our presence.

Your zodiac is your water taxi to shore (or out to see icebergs) in Antarctica. Incredibly stable, carrying about 12 passengers, you quickly learn how to embark (sit and slide) and disembark (sailor’s grip) for maximum safety. It requires some mobility but nothing very taxing.
